Anyone use SpeedFan?

Neat little program, but hoping someone might be able to enlighten me as to how to get more meaning out of the temperatures..

I've managed to download a user made file that matches my motherboard, so the temperatures it details are as follows:

CPU
NB (northbridge I assume)

Both of these have the same temp chip IT8712F

PCB (no idea) - AMD K8 chip. What is this temp referring to?

Local Temp
Remote Temp

MAX6648 Chip, no idea what these temps mean.

HD0 (assume this is HD, as it makes reference to 120GB).

:arrow:GPU (Geforce Video Card)
:arrow:Core (nVidia Video Card)
Ambient (nVidia Video Card)

Assume these are all to do with the G-card, but only core and ambient read a temp, GPU reads 0.

I'm not into fiddling with fan speeds or bus speeds, or any of its other features, just want to know what temps im actually looking at, and what I need to be concerned with.

Any pointers useful, ta.

Oh, also the only FAN rpm reading ive got is the CPU fan.

I have 4 case fans, and a PSU fan, but I think most of the case fans are powered from molex connectors, which I assume means I can't get a speed reading?

Any idea how to get the PSU fan to give a reading?

PCB sounds like your mother board.

HD is the hard drive temp, some have fans to keep them cool. Mine has one fan between 4 Hard drives.

I prefer Everest Ultimate for temperatures, less intrusive if your not changing fan speeds.

Its not running at 18 degrees, I'm guessing the T-Junction is set wrong. Should be 100 for intel C2D/Quad CPU's. Dowload Core Temp and I bet its higher than that. Updating the bios on you motherboard will often make for more accurate temp readings as newer versions often correct inacuracies.

CoreTemp is the best, speedfan can be 15 degrees out in Vista as it used to have the wrong Tjunction.

Intel TAT is supposed to be pretty good, Core2Duo's run #THERMTRIP anyway so I couldn't give a shit about temp monitoring, I'll leave that to the PC mollycoddler brigade.

Thanks folks.

I'm not a mollycoddler or overclocker, this all stems from this once quick PC running like a bag of slow shite, was wondering if temps were owt to do with it.

Also bought a cheap socket 939 dual core processor a while ago(thinking being before all 939 CPU's disappear) and wanted to know the current temps of my single core athlon XP 3700 to compare to the running temps of the new chip, just as a point of interest.

If I ever get round to installing it
