Question So... it would seem my insurance company reckon that a '96 Blade is £50 a year more to insure than a '01 GSXR600. What a dilema... Anyone ridden either, both? Do i need a 900cc bike? am i gonna kill myself? I reckon i'll ride 'em at the same speed really just, will i have more fun ringing the neck of a 600 over the 'how fast how easily' paranoia of a blade? If there were no speedlimits there would be no problem here i guess! also the blade is a grand cheaper. in the immortal words of Penfold ' Ah crumbs chief, what do we do now?'

What do you reckon?

If you've had plenty of experience with bigger bikes then I'd say the blade. But if you've just passed your test then I'd suggest the Gixer 600. Just an opinion. Best bet would be to go out and test ride the both of them though.

I say the Blade. It's cheaper, faster and it's a Honda. Razz

I'd go with the 600. If the GSXR is anything like the CBR6/zx6/r6 of the same years (and it's supposed to be at least as good, if not better than them) then IMHO:
It's a more fun bike to ride.
It will feel faster, will wheelie better and will probably be just as fast 90% of the time. On track or when really pushing it, it probably will be faster, because you can rag the engine a bit more and not have to be worried about it chuckign you off so much. Also the suspension will be a fair bit better I reckon.

I'd go for the 600, there's not going much in it power wise and the brakes/handling will be better on the newer bike.

Confused Ah cheers for all your opinions so far! The gixxer is winning on the voteometer thingy, as i thought it might. It's the bike i've always wanted I guess, the blade just came us as an option due to a shortage of cash. I guess i'm trying to jump the gun a bit too. It would be kinda nice to own a litre bike, having ridden some, twins and fours (modern ish ones 2000-02) i'd say i'd get into trouble quite quick if i wanted to feel like i was riding fast. I had sooo much fun on an RS125 years ago! It made me feel like a GP god because you can use 100% and it turns so quick oh and the smell!

So thanks peeps! I guess it will be the Gixxer, for the sake of a better handling package and not having to perform on a blade so little bikes don't show me up! I'll never be truly happy till i have one anyway.

Time to go pester the bank manager!

Thanks again!

Echoes...

Um, I hate to say this, but 600's have come along so much since 1996 that the Gixxers performance will be comparable to a '96 blade, and it will handle better and brake better too.

You *are* better off with the 600, but you'll still need to take it easy! Smile

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.
