hi folks,
was doing my CBT yesterday on a yam SR125, had been a great day, wasnt much good at u-turns but liked riding.
Taking a gentle bend at 55'ish on a 60 road, suddenly accidentally revved the engine and cocked up my line, got a shock how much the bike leaned so i touched both brakes, the bike stood up and i ceased cornering...
hit a curb before i could react, went over the handlebars, rolled in midair and hit a pillar for a giant roundabout sign back-first. The bike summersaulted after me and hit the actual sign itself.
SEVERELY winded for a few hours, one lung was partly deflated and my back was in a bad state. Hospital chopped up all my clothes, 3 drips, morphine, and a tube down my nose into my stomach... They had a giant metal spike ready to puncture my chest and let out excess gas.
Finally confirmed no internal bleeding or broken ribs, the lung reinflated itself and my only real injury is a broken hand. My back has a lot of internal bruising and it hurts a fair bit. Out of hospital though at 1pm (Crashed 5pm the day before).
Failed my CBT and wrote off a nice bike |

Oh s**T, and I thought loosing the examinar on my test was bad. Glad you're still in the land of the living. Don't let it put you off. Need more practice though me thinks. |

Yowch! I'm so sorry for you. That's not the best experience for a first time rider
No worries though- do your CBT someplace else where they might let you onto the road You might want to give it a while before you get back on 2 wheels.
At least you're alright eh!

G is right, the SR can go a long way down. I had an incident on mine on the approach to a roundabout on a road I had never been on before (I will add that it was late, dark, I was lost, and there was no traffic in either direction that could be seen). Anyhow, the road signs were overgrown by bushes, and didn't see the roundabout approaching. Of course I started to brake when I saw it, but that was too late so I arrived at the round about going way too fast. Now committed to taking it I pulled the bike round as best I could. The SR never faltered, pulled right round and shot me back up the road I had come from.
Not something I wish to do again, but that bike is really stable. As a learners bike, I'm very glad I had that rather than anything else, I dare say that had I have been on a different bike, I wouldn't have stood anywhere near as good a chance.
If I were you, I'd get back to that centre as soon as you are fit to ride, and get straight back on an SR. As mentioned by others, take it slow and if you turn up early and explain that you are returning, they may let you drive in the training area whilst others arrive, Giving you the opportunity to just gently drive and manoeuver and get used to the bike. The SR was such a lovely bike to ride, I hope that your accident doesn't put you off them.
Hope you mend soon, and get back on those wheels |
