lost my 2nd set of keys grrr, helo

lost the spare key for my 400 bandit and i've read about locksmiths being able to cut new keys given barrel codes etc etc. Is that gonna work for the import bikes or am i gonna have to get a new barrel, tank lock and seat lock??

They probably can - talk to them first.
Be a bit cheaper if you can get the lock off the bike and too them - they'll then take it apart and go from there.
Generally I think there's a code or something which they read off the inside of the lock, stick it into a computer and it makes a new key for you.

I had this done afew yrs back with a boot lock for a car was around £25 i think was a good key never had problems

Providing it's the same key for all, it will fit all.

You'll need a proper automotive locksmith, not just a side-ally key cutter. Ring a few up and ask if they'll do it for your bike and how much, etc.

Hi,
if the barrels got a code on it, locksmith should be able to cut you a key (+a spare!)
if no code, take it to any bike shop (in fact locksmith should be able to do this as well) & they will send it to that guy in camden, keys galore, i think its called. & he will cut u keys for around 30 quid.

Thats quite scarey really?
So i could go steal a bike, whip the barrell off and get some keys made up for tht barrell.
sounds pretty dangerous to me.

If you have to get a key cut from a lock, always use the ignition barrel because sometimes the seat and petrol cap use simpler locks.

A key made from the ignition barrel will work on those (assuming you have a matched set), but not necessarily the other way round.

To create a new copy of the key, these locksmith will ask for some information about your vehicle, including the year, make, model, and VIN number, so have this information handy. Please also be prepared to show proof of ownership, such as a picture ID, along with either your vehicle title or registration papers. Don’t worry if your key had fancy special features. These days,they offer more sophisticated services including high-security transponder “chipped” keys and smart keys with proximity remotes.These guys might also be able to repair or replace your ignition if necessary.
