Remarkably unlike car manufactures the blokes that make bikes don't keep a record of barrel or key numbers for their products. This isn't a big deal until you lose both your keys - hey Carl? The problem is you can either hot wire your bike (and try and brake the steering lock if it's on) or replace the ignition switch. If you go this route you'll have to drill out the anti-tamper bolts that hold the ignition switch to the top of the yoke, and replace them, and you've got the problem of having to replace the seat lock as well. This is all a heck of a lot of hassle, and it could cost you a fortune, but there is another way.
There is a small key shop in London that will cut you a set of keys from your existing ignition switch. Oh yeah, you can send them the whole top yoke complete with ignition switch, so you don't have to mess with the anti tamper bolts as well. It costs £30 for the first key but the best bit is that they keep a record of the key and can send you another one for only £6.50. So if you are the careless type, Fred dodge at keys galore in Camden (0207 586 9741) is the man to call.
I don't think 30 quid sounds all that bad... Don't fancy having to pay the postage on it though . |
naah i took it to my local auto locksmiths and he took the barrel apart and matched up a code that was on it to a database and just plugged it into his machine and cut me a new key, simple as that, £29.50 for the work including 2 keys =] |

I also lost the keys of my 400 bandit, then i hire ELGIN LOCKSMITH. To create a new copy of the key, these locksmith will ask for some information about your vehicle, including the year, make, model, and VIN number, so have this information handy. Please also be prepared to show proof of ownership, such as a picture ID, along with either your vehicle title or registration papers. Don’t worry if your key had fancy special features. These days, they offer more sophisticated services including high-security transponder “chipped” keys and smart keys with proximity remotes. These guys might also be able to repair or replace your ignition if necessary. ____________________ Lennysmith |

Elgin Locksmith sexually abused my hamster, for that reason I'd advise you against doing business with them. |
