datatool system 3 problem

Installed a bran new system 3 alarm l purchased off eBay on my R100GS a few days ago with no problems but now it seems like l,ve got a dead mainboard (immobilization circuit will not disarm and the alarm LED is showing constantly red), i,ve linked out these two circuits on the connector going to the board for now (piss easy to disable ) but will l be able to send the board off under warranty for repair/replacement even though l fitted it myself?

The Datatool warranty is only valid if it has been installed by an authorised dealer.

If it hadn't of been working when you first got it from the ebay vendor then I would say you should be complaining to him, but by the sounds of it, it was okay at first but has subsequently f**ked up. I would say that this puts you in a tricky position as I reckon that purchases made off ebay come with no guarantee period, just as long as they are working (or as described) when received.

Therefore I suggest that you set about Datatool themselves and see whether you can get anywhere with them. I don't envisage success though, as you are clearly working well outside of their normal warranty terms and conditions.

You may have to put this one down to experience and learn two lessons. 1, Don't buy expensive electrical items off ebay as you have little warranty comeback; 2, When it comes to Thatcham approved bike alarms/immobilisers, they nearly always have to be installed by an approved fitter to be relevant/warranted.

I have the Data Tool S3 on my Hornet atm... Its buggered tbh.

I was told (not sure if its true) that there is a level inside that is full of liquid. If the bike is stood for a long time not moved, the liquid dries and the level can be moved with the slightest touch (thats why they become very sensitive)

I'm getting my PC board removed and exchanged next month under extended warranty, I can give you the number for the person who does it (lives in Peterborough) but it will cost as its not under warranty...

Note: I have the S4 red on the Fireblade - Its so much better and a lot easier to use - recomended for anyone

Just to update you on my situation...

I had my Hornets PC board replaced, she works a dream now...

I thought the Datatool S3 was sh*te at first, but she seems to be really good now.

Its a shame you guys had problems...
