I'm sure this question has been asked several times before but can anyone recommend a decent looking used bike for around £500.

Been seriously thinking about getting a skyjet, yeah I know there a piece of shit but I figure they will be ok to get to and from work, I don't intend to thrash the bollox out of it and any long journey I need to make I will make in the car.

I'm just looking for a cheap run about to see weather I enjoy riding before I splash out for DAS and a Decent bike. I really like the Honda NRS 125 but there around double I wanna pay Sad

I don't mind how old the bike is just as it looks nice i hate the idea of driving about on a club 90 Smile

I would never recommend a specific bike for a learner... so much depends on your height, weight build etc My wifes EN125 is great for her, but too small (as are most 125's) for me, try Ebay for bikes near you within your price range, local bike shops etc,,,,That way you can try one that you like the look of. Have you passed your CBT? If not then book one, and see whether you like it or not, that way you dont waste too much money. and you could possibly go straight to a big bike.

You will get a lot of negatives about Skyjet and other chinese bikes on here, however all I would say is that appreciate what your buying, spend more time checking over on a more regular basis for problems and it will last longer than they usually do.

For what your going to use it for, just fine Thumbs Up

CG125

great learner bikes
will take serious abuse to kill one

~100mpg
60mph top speed
As JC would say "more reliable than a wood burning stove"

IMO dont go chinese, if you buy the CG you will prob get the 500 quid back in a few months if you decide to sell
chinese bikes lose value quick

Search Chinese bikes on the forums and see what happened.

Quick example, Matt on here had a Lifan where the frame snapped in two.

In 5 years from now will you still be telling the story of Matt's lifan, get over it.

Yes it happened, but regardless of this there are still plenty of people who come on the forum happy wiht their chinese bike.

Problem is nobody will give them the chance.

I dont support chinese at the moment either however one story of a split frame is not going to stop people buying.

Honda CG seems to be 'the' recommended beginner bike, just because they take so much abuse and hold value so well. Personally, I don't like the look of them - I ride a Kymco Zing, which is far more my style.

If you do buy chinese, consider the availability of spares - a lot of them are so closely copied from the big 4 that the parts are interchangable, but don't count on it. Consider it a disposable bike because it won't hold value well enough to be worth trading in.

I could tell 20 stories like matts, about 10 from first hand experience, which is everyone I know who has bought one.
