 |
|
well to start it off i do not have a car license which i would need if i want to ride a quad on the road.
but before i go and start taking my driving lessons im just wanting some thoughts and advice about getting a road legal quad on the road.
1. are they high maintenance?
2. do they need rebuilding alot?
3. if i was to ride it 3-4 times a week whats best to get 2 or 4 stroke.
what are the down side of getting a quad??
what are the good points?
thanks. |

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. 4 stroke
What is your budget ? I bought one for fun (Cheap Chinese thing), and the build quality is terrible. If you are going to use it everyday it needs to be Japanese. I honestly can't see a Chinese one last more than two weeks without a problem. ____________________ Current: ZZR1400

I'd say if you're going for something like that you'll be fine.
Quads are good fun once you've got used to them, but I think if you are going to use it everyday the novelty might wear off (Could be wrong though).
Out of interest, why are you looking for a quad ? Why not a road legal 250 crosser ? I presume you've got a bike licence, and getting a car licence to ride a quad seems a bit of a wierd choice.
One drawback I've always found with quads is security, too easy to nick. ____________________ Current: ZZR1400

Worse IMO.
My quad has full steel wheels, so you can't just chuck a chain through the wheel, or use a disc lock. You have to find something to chain it to. ____________________ Current: ZZR1400

Why get a quad, you get the bad bits of a car, stuck in traffic etc but with no radio and the bad bits of a bike, getting cold and wet etc but without filtering.
Madness, you'll be getting a trike soon ____________________ Past: 06 Runner SP50 >>> 01 Varadero XL125 >>> 08 Kwak ER-6f >>> 05 CBR600rr

i only have my CBT and my dtr got robbed unfortunatly
now what my mum said is she would pay for my driving lessons but she will not pay for the motorbike lessons/test or anything to do with bike she doesnt like them she thinks they are dangerous ! which i think is wrong because it depends on the driver/rider.
so i thought if shes going to pay for the driving lessons and test, why not at least its there for in the future. and i can drive her car she said.
so i was just thinking about getting a quad, try something new |

Good point. Check insurance first.
And IMO quads are more dangerous than bikes, not least for the fact you aren't legally obliged to wear a helmet, and steering them at speed is nothing like driving a car or riding a bike. Not that you'd be going too fast on a 250cc one anyway. That Honda one will probably do 50 mph tops. ____________________ Current: ZZR1400

I dunno - I got lent a "TGB Blade 250" for a few days while my bike was being fixed, and saw 60+ on the speedo whilst battering down the bypass. It had more in it (but not a great deal), and by then both me and it had reached an agreement that we didn't want to push things further.
I never really got comfortable with a vehicle that , in essence, to get it round a roundabout you had to lean into the turn enough that the outside rear wheel would break traction and stop trying to drive the thing straight forward. It always felt a bit "squirbly", best I can describe it.
I'd still happily have one, though. |
Just done a quick search, and it looks like the TRX does do about 50 mph tops. ATV Forum Not a bad guess.
It looks as though them Blade things do about 60 tops, not bad for a 250 4T quad as standard.
And I totally agree about the "squirbly" thing. It's just something you have to get used to I suppose. But they are good fun! ____________________ Current: ZZR1400
