thinking of a road quad

well to start it off i do not have a car license which i would need if i want to ride a quad on the road.

but before i go and start taking my driving lessons im just wanting some thoughts and advice about getting a road legal quad on the road.

1. are they high maintenance?
2. do they need rebuilding alot?
3. if i was to ride it 3-4 times a week whats best to get 2 or 4 stroke.

what are the down side of getting a quad??
what are the good points?

What is your budget ? I bought one for fun (Cheap Chinese thing), and the build quality is terrible. If you are going to use it everyday it needs to be Japanese. I honestly can't see a Chinese one last more than two weeks without a problem.

i was hoping id get some possitive answers lol

i was never going to get a chinese one anyway as i have heard ALOT of times that they are terrible.

my budget is around £1500. but im not looking at the big 700s probably only upto 250's

only really going to ride it about 20miles a day for like 3 times a week. if that. but depends if they need rebuilding often.

I'd say if you're going for something like that you'll be fine.

Quads are good fun once you've got used to them, but I think if you are going to use it everyday the novelty might wear off (Could be wrong though).

Out of interest, why are you looking for a quad ? Why not a road legal 250 crosser ? I presume you've got a bike licence, and getting a car licence to ride a quad seems a bit of a wierd choice.

One drawback I've always found with quads is security, too easy to nick.

Worse IMO.

My quad has full steel wheels, so you can't just chuck a chain through the wheel, or use a disc lock. You have to find something to chain it to.

Why get a quad, you get the bad bits of a car, stuck in traffic etc but with no radio and the bad bits of a bike, getting cold and wet etc but without filtering.

i only have my CBT and my dtr got robbed unfortunatly

now what my mum said is she would pay for my driving lessons but she will not pay for the motorbike lessons/test or anything to do with bike she doesnt like them she thinks they are dangerous ! which i think is wrong because it depends on the driver/rider.

so i thought if shes going to pay for the driving lessons and test, why not at least its there for in the future. and i can drive her car she said.

so i was just thinking about getting a quad, try something new

You will have massive problems getting insured if you are under 21, well at least I did when I was looking a few years back.

Good point. Check insurance first.

And IMO quads are more dangerous than bikes, not least for the fact you aren't legally obliged to wear a helmet, and steering them at speed is nothing like driving a car or riding a bike. Not that you'd be going too fast on a 250cc one anyway. That Honda one will probably do 50 mph tops.
