been thinking of getting a afternarket air filter for the cbr (which as you probablty know is PGMFI wotsit ma jiggy). would it do any harm to the bike if i were to fit one without reprogramming the ecu with a power commander etc... i will get one at some point just cant afford one at the mo.
I already have a slip on scorpion can and i know i would probably drop a few more horses than i probably have already with the exhaust, but i dont mind really as it could help with the pending winter commutes by not making it as fierce.

it was just a replacement air filter element that i was thinking of, one that fits into the origional airbox, am just unsure if it would cause any damage to the engine with leaning out the mixture. ____________________ 04 NSR 125(sold) ---- 03 CBR 600rr(sold) ----90 pan euro ST1100 ' ' ----02 CG 125

The ECU would correct a little bit, but with the exhaust it could well tip it over the end and it'll run lean. Fit a PCIII it's worth the 280 quid. ____________________ My Flickr |

realistically you will only gain from a pc111 with a dyno run. the maps they have dont realy suit as one bike off the production line will be different to the next.
as keith said with the filter. if you change it i doubt there will be any noticeable difference in power and noise, the original filters these days are very good.
so is it all worth it? i doubt it, best leave as is and wait for a bigger bike to do mods to

everything is standard apart from the slip on exhaust, not sure if i will be doing anything else to it engine wise as i will probably just buy a bigger bike if i want to go faster. ____________________ 04 NSR 125(sold) ---- 03 CBR 600rr(sold) ----90 pan euro ST1100 ' ' ----02 CG 125

The best thing a PCIII does to a bike is smooth out the whole rev range and give you a bit more torque. Top end power isn't always the be-all-and-end-all of a good bike setup. Stock maps generally tend to be a bit off because general wear and tear on the engine causes your bike to fuel differently. If for example you have a few tight valves and the PCIII map was setup on a bike which had just had all its valves done then your fuelling would be off. You really have to get it tweaked for it to be perfect. Either that or get your bike setup exactly how the PCIII test-bike was setup! ____________________ Current bike: VTR1000F Firestorm.
