vx 800 hot exhaust pipe

Hi! great forum

just bought vx800 1995 with 7000 miles

Right front exhaust pipe is geting burned spot wright at exit from cilinder,I did not notice any less power or knocking but since I just bought the bike I could be wrong.
did notice from front carb has some gulky substance, just a drop from some kind draineage tiny pipe at botom

next step is I'm gona check air filters and proabably take carbs apart
should I do that??

No reason not to change the air fiolter, no idea why you want to take the carb apart...[/quote]

I read before that that could be a cause,
what do you think what it is? carb apart because some residu on the botom of the carb

ok there isnt much just a drop, what do you think about discolored burned like area at exit of front cilinder

also does that cooling fan kick in ever? because did not in 50 miles drive home,it was 52 degres outside??

No idea, the fan on my ZRX has come on maybe 5 times in the past 10 years & 83K miles.... & I live in the Mojave where it's in the 100's for months on end..

Exhuasts get hot & disciolour, if the bike is running ok I;d ignore it.. altho vinegar will remove blueing from chrome etc[/quote]

just took of the front caBLE spark OFF motorcycle died took from back cilinder it was working,here is my answer why front exhaust pipe was so hot.
went for a ride with only front cylinder working and barely had strenght to move,soon as i put spark cable back on rear cilinder feelt like it has more power. I read about adjusting the carb mixture is there a website that exactly explains that?

There's a useful forum on www.vx800.net - a few experts on the model there.

I used to have one, nice bikes.
Air filters - there are two, and they're quite expensive and small, so need changing or cleaning quite often, and often don't get replaced because of the cost. So sort them out first.

Some people fiddle with the mixture screws, that only effects the mix at tickover really though. The tickover mix is set quite lean as standard, which can lead to a rather weak tickover, so there is a chance that someone has fiddled with yours before.

Change the plugs too.

I put in new plugs , it worked ! before I switched plugs and one was dead, so that was the problem.
no i can't adjust back carb mixture,front one works fine when I unplug rear ,but rear one I have to set up to ran higher but then I plug in front one and rpm go over 2000. any
sugestions?
and could you explain what does tickover mean?

If one exhaust is getting blue'd and runs hotter than the other then I would expect to find that it is running lean. If it isn't getting any worse then I wouldn't worry about it too much unless it starts to glow red!
