1. Ok so the brake system is sorted with new fluid and braided lines, ive fitted a new front wheel as the old one was bent due to the crash. The problem is that the pads seem to be stuck hard onto the disc, tbh it was a mission to get the calipers bk on the discs!! will they free up wen the bike is rolling again? because at the moment i can push the front wheel around ( whilst the bike is on the stand ) but its pretty stiff, and i can hear the pad rubbing the discs....

2. ive fitted some GB-moto rearsets, obviously on the right hadn side this includes the gear selector arm and linkage, and this is were the problem is....
Now ive heard that you need to put the little 'Oshaped' collar ( on the end of the selector arm) that slides onto the gearbox stork back in the perfect place or it will bugger the gear selection up, and you will have to keep refitting until you get it were it should be?!! is this right, as with the engine running i pulled the clutch in ( whilst the rear stand was on ) clicked into 1st gear and the wheel started spinning ( not just twitching, as they tend to do anyway) with the clutch still in?!!! wots that all about? surely the wheel should remain stationary until i start to slip the clutch and apply throttle etc...? wich makes me think ive put that Collar back incorrectly....

I just want to clarify this problems and sort them out myself if pos as i want to get it on the Dyno in december and ive got a few more bits on the way this month....
any advice welcome!!
thanx Smile
Toby

1] will be the pistons gummed up in the calipers. you need to get them out, clean them well and refit them. if its just about rubbing then its normal.

2] if your bike has been standing for a while the clutch plates are probably stuck, thats normal, most bikes do it. to free them off i do it by taping the clutch lever in and leave it running in gear on a paddock stand, it eventually frees off Thumbs Up

1 Could be you didn't bleed the brakes properly if at all or as Rotax says could be gunked up but this is unlikely unless you've left the bike standing for farking ages whilst you've been doing it.

2. Right hand side?! You've got a facking weird bike then. Most modern bikes have got the gear shift on the left Laughing Razz Could be a poorly adjusted clutch, doubt it's anything to do with the collar on the linkage as they're designed to kind of roll about on the ball they're on.

Thats just drag caused by the oil, most bikes will spin the rear wheel in the same situation.

Unlikely they will free up. Sounds like they possibly need a strip down as Rotax81 mentions.

However one possibility if you have just put new pads in (you don't say, but possible if you have just done the brakes). Some OE pads come with a heat shield on the back, and some replacement pads don't and the friction material is too thick to allow the heat shield to fit. Could be you have put new pads in with the old heat shield and that is pushing the pads onto the disk.

Also worth checking that you haven't seriously over filled the fluid reservior.

All the best

Keith

yea i doubt they would need a strip down tbh, as theve just been serviced. My brother has just informed me that he gave the levers a good squeeze the other day when the calipers were just hanging free.... well done Rolling Eyes and tbh i did wonder why i had to prize the pads apart a bit anyways to even slide the calipers on the discs themselves!!?! so mayby if i take them off again, and prize them apart completely and then put them bk?

Hi

If the pistons are free then once the pistons have been pushed back to get back over the disk then the brakes shouldn't drag.

All the best
