zxr 750 radiator replacement(bodge!)

Hey guys as I mentioned in a previous thread I had a hole in my rad that wasn't cost effective to have fixed. Anyway scoured the tinternet to find some wildly varying prices on rads from 40 to 160 all used items for my machine

But even then I'd have to wait XX amount of days for delivery and I'm back at work 25 miles away on monday. Had to get it fixed. Noticed one breakers on ebay relatively near me who was selling earlier model zxr rads for a good price but I had some feelin that the earlier ones wouldn't hook up without a lot of work. A scan through my haynes confirmed this. The plumbing was a totally differnt system.

Still I had a browse on this breakers website saw a rad that looked like it should work, for an old YZF 750.

So in the car today got the missus to take me up there. had a look at the rad itself, all looking good plumbing wise, only thing was thermostat connection was other side and this was twin fan instead of single like my ZXR no worries so I bought it and took it home earlier today.

Took about an hour to remove zxr one and plumb in the Yzf one, wired the twin fans in series and plugged it in, even the block connector was the same!! Extended the thermostat wire and wired that up to the rad.the rad is all held on by wire at the moment since the brackets need some modding to fit the existing ones. No probs. Took it out for a spin working real good. Gettin up to temperature fine and not over heatin at all. In fact pretty much same cooling performance as my zxr one. Only problem I have now is the mount brackets and fairing since my zxr one was curved to fit the fairing and whilst this ones almost half the size its straight not curved.

Nice bodge!

Whats the clearance to the wheel like under braking? Make sure its not too close to the rad!!

I have a race kit 2 piece rad for the ZXR, not sure whether to put it on or not, just for poser points really!!

Also, picked up a Suter dry clutch conversion for the 7 tonight. Looks the business!! Now my wallet is a few hundred quid lighter

Hey Barry. Yeah checked the clearence, that was my inital worry when gettin it home as I hadn't thought about it previously. Admitedly I have had to recess the rad a bit more towards the manifold but not too much to cause concern.the hardest part will probably be doing the bracket mods.

Barry I've really not seen any racekit parts for the zxr in the flesh or on picture. If you do end up sticking that 2piece in I'd love to see a pic of it installed.
