my car wont staart

i just bought a car (vauxull corsa) and now for some reason its not starting.. and fuel isnt reaching the engine.

how can i fix this? whats wrong.

hm.. but the fuel gauge is over the red line so surely its enough? plus there was already a bit in there

Does the car have any recent service history that would indicate when this was last changed?

How long ago did you buy the car and was it a private sale or a used car dealer?

Unless you have changed the engine it will be. Vauxhall dropped carbs a before the Corsa was put into production.

I suspect you're wrong there smoke.

Either way, check the in-tank pump. There should be a fuse in the in-cabin fusebox. If that's gone it won't go anywhere.

Are you SURE there's no fuel to the engine? Thinking it may be flooded instead?

Check the dizzy.

My old corsa had the same problem where it ran fine then didn't wanna know and it turned out the electrodes in the dizzy had blown apart.

its not flooded. either way i will call the AA out 2moro morning and see what the problem is, HOPEFULLY its not serious.. and wont cost me more than 50 quid to fix

Check the spark plug's.

Seriously though, does sound like it's a fuel issue and if filling it doesn't solve the issue then syphon it out and use it for the bike or flog it again.

Take the main petrol line going to the engine off and turn on the ignition/try to start it,if petrol gushes out of the pipe you know you're fuel pump is working.
You should also hear a buzz from the fuel pump when you turn on the ignition.

If you get no fuel with ignition on check the fuel pump relay (common fault on vauxhalls).Usually just removing it,cleaning the terminals then re-fitting gets it going temporarily.(otherwise get a few spares from the scrappy)

If that doesn't work get a tester bulb and make sure power is getting to the fuel pump.If power is getting there try putting a direct live and earth to it.If it's not fucked you should hear it buzz for a few seconds while it pressurized the fuel.

Couple of things their for you to try.

Also as has been said,make sure their's plenty go go juice in.They dont like being run low.

The fuel pump relay is usually either under the bonnet in the relay holder/main fuse box,or in the n/s kick panel.(side trim where passengers left foot would be)
Also usually in their is the fuel cut-off switch.They do sometimes mess up.

Bit of petrol or easy start straight into the intakes, if it runs on that then cuts out you know you've got fuel starvation rather than another problem.

ok just had the AA round and they say its the fuel pump.. how much is one of those
