Lost my only key.

Hi, I somehow lost my only key to the GPZ the other day so I really need to know a few things,

Firstly, is the little number stamped on the ignition shroud the key code so I can get another made from that? if not will a kawasaki dealer be able to find it out from my V.I.N number or anything similar? or if I pushed my bike to a local locksmith is it possible to have a new one made from my ignition? whats the cheapest easyest way to get a new key made for it?.....

Secondly, until I can get a new key sorted, which of the 5 wires going to the ignition do I need to join to get it running and with lights? Because I need the bike today and for work on monday before I can get a new one sorted

a decent locksmith should be able to sort you a key out ....

i'm not sure but i think your keycode should be on the ignition barrel, you'll probably have to remove it to find it tho ...

no idea on the requirements for hotwiring your bike, i'd have to look personally

hi,
i dunno about the code, if there is a code stamped/engraved onto the barrell, then you might be able to get a key cut with this number.
but the way i done before, was remove the complete ingition barrell,
take it to any locksmith or bike shop & they can send it off to keys galore, who will cut you 2 new keys for around 30 quid. takes about a week, what with post etc.
whilst i was waiting on the barrel & keys, i jusy ran around with no ignition switch!
i fitted an in- line switch hidden away where no-one could see it.
& used a couple of extra chains & locks (due to having no steering lock & besides, if anyone found the switch they could have just ridden it away! & no insurasnce payout-was a bit para that week, lol)
hardest bit was getting the security bolts out from the barrell.
at least you will then have 2 keys.

Cheers guys, got it working using shaggy's method (cheers) only problem is its been sitting for a few days so iv killed the battery trying to start it tryed bumping it a few times until I was knackered, then realised even if I did get it running, I cant actually put any more fuel in it .

I really dont want to be messing about with shear bolts so I guess im screwed unless I find this key.

Look in the yellow pages for auto-lock smiths.
They should be able to do it and will come to you for a charge - possibly a little more on a Sunday.

Bikes are very easy to hot-wire, but convention has it that it isn't discussed on public forums, for obvious reasons.

So he can make a new key from my ignition you mean? Have you got a rough idea on price (on a monday rather than sunday) because im quite skint as usual:oops: Its looking like the best option though.....Left my mobile in my work van aswell and dont have a house phone which really isnt helping

I paid £70 to have it done for my car with them coming to the car. £55 for a bike (on a weekend, think a Sunday) taking just the ignition barrel to the bloke's house a few years ago.

Have to ring up to check, however... skype or similar?

hi,
shear bolts come out fairly easy with a dremel.
cut a slot in the head with a cutting disc & use a long straight screwdriver or impact driver to remove the security bolt.

On the more fuel thing; I lost the key for my CRM125 at one point.
Took the tank off and then the fuel tap off and filled from there.

Unfortunately I only got about halfway around the off-road route we were riding, so ended up calling on Bendy and Cassy to bring me some fuel to repeat the procedure, so we could finish the route.

found that a few fuel caps open with small bladed screwdriver on my multi-tool, with no damage, some seat locks too.
though, im currently having problems with the seat lock on the vfr, key wont turn it, neither will a screwdriver...stumped

Right, tommorow my sphincter's getting torn to the sum of 95 quid+V.A.T Tryed alot of places and its the cheapest I could get (there coming to my house though) some bastards even tryed charging 150 minimum I guess they've got people bent over really though.....
Oh well, live and learn, its DEFINATLY worth the 5-10quid to get a spare cut rather than thinking just because youve got zip pockets you wont loose it

i'd have persevered & taken the ignition barrel off, hotwired it & got keys cut from the barrel for 30 quid.
but im tight like that.
