Been thinking of investing in some sports leathers the last few weeks. I liked the look of the alpinestars ones. So I popped down to Hein Gericke at lunch time just now and had a look just to dream about all the nice things I can't afford. Then the sales man came up and gave me his pitch and got me signed up as a store member and told me I can pay up everything over a year, interest free. Shocked Well he had me sold right there! Confused Here's what leathers I got.

https://www.customlids.co.uk/leathers/astars/sx1/2piece/sx12pcgrey.jpg

Also ended up getting the alpinestars back protector and matching knee sliders. Rolling Eyes Razz Total came to £850. Confused

Oh well, the way I see it, I was planning on buying this throughout the year anyway. Thumbs Up Smile

Nice, I've got an Alpinestars 1pce with the alpinestars back protector. Always done the business, not crashed it yet though!

By the way, don't tell anyone it'll ruin my reputation! Wink

See you!

You had to copy me by buying a silver bike, but you've gone too far with this now!!!

Only joking mate, my leathers are red\white\black - I liked them and looked good on the NSR - but new bike is silver, so maybe I'll have to invest over the summer..........

But then again, they're only there to protect you really.

Sounds like you got a good deal too Thumbs Up Very Happy

Oh...possible Scottish bike run for us soon!!! I'll send you a PM.

Mark

Nice leathers mate, but as Mr C said you would have been better of with custom ones. I bought my Alpinestars 2pce leathers for £600 (they are red/white/black power ranger ones) and I paid £150 for my Sidi's, that was an expensive day. Shocked

There's a difference between being a tart and looking a twat riding a bright green bike with bright orange leathers.

Spray can = £5

New (tarty) leathers = £600+

So what's the deal with these custom leathers? Or do I not want to know after just buying that? Confused

Just for the record, I freely admit to having tarty tendencies. Razz

you go to Crowtree in Louth, strip to your thermal undergarments and are measured by Alec to EVERY tiniest nook and cranny of your body (honest) or if you are lucky Linda will do it Embarassed

you specify any pattern and colour and logos you want and what level of protection etc.

come back in 12 weeks and you have a suit which is literally a second skin in the finest quality cowhide money can buy

mine cost £850 one piece Wink

but zip togethers work out much the same - you will be gobsmacked at the fit and quality - but you really don't want to hear that now do you Twisted Evil

You don't want to know.

Custom leathers can be got for the same or less than you paid.
You get a fit that should be perfect for you, because they are measured and made just for you.
From everything I've heard, the quality should be better than most off the shelf leathers, even from the expensive big brands.

You can also get graphics etc done exactly as you would like and any other modifications you may want. Obviously if you do choose to do a special design it will be totally unique (but then that's not what being tarty on a bike is about really Razz ).

Ok I think I'm going to go off and cry now... Crying or Very sad Ach well if I done that I wouldn't have been able to afford it right now. Maybe next time. Hope that won't be any time soon though. Thanks!

The other thing I was wondering was is it acceptable to wear it to a track day? I heard something about only being able to wear a one piece to track days. The suit does zip all the way round in the middle, does that make it ok?

I really wish I consulted you guys before I went and bought this now. Didn't think you'd want to hear another 'what leathers should I buy?' post though.

Don't worry too much. I did exactly the same thing. Got some Dianese two piece leathers coming out at around £600 in the end. Were the best fit I could find at the time, but would have gone for custom made if I'd known about their relative price.
They didn't crash too well either, the material with the zip holding the two pieces together wore through as I roled along the road. They did do their job however and I ended with an aching knee rather than a broken one and no gravel rash.

Two piece are fine on track days providing they do zip together all the way around. For club racing etc you need one piece however.

Sweet mate. They are similar to the ones I was looking at I think though I think they were a 1 piece. Silver and black are the best colours IMO Thumbs Up Wink

Thought you said you were skint Laughing
