hi there fellow bikers, i have a bit of a problem . . . . Basically when it rains the bike start and ride for about 4mins then will cut out. It sounds as if i hit the kill switch with the bogging down noise? i have already sprayed ht lead and coil in wd40 just in case and that still hasnt worked. This only happens if its raining or go through a big puddle.could it be dodgy ht lead and coil?

Any ideas would be much appreciated? Thumbs Up

Hi,
as previous poster says, insulate the ht lead & cap.
that should stop water getting in.
especially at the ends of the ht lead.
& give it a good coating of acf50 or similar.
you dont have an open air filter do you?
cheers,
GAZ

Dont really need to do the coil, just the lead and the end of the cap, where the HT lead meets the cap.

As for the air filter, open air filters dont like rain, you could be gettin rain water into the engine. Perhaps you could revert back to the box filter or cover it up somehow? I think ive heard of covers to stop it. Not sure though Thumbs Up

hi,
get the original airbox on!
the rs doesnt like open air filters, with the exception of a vectorcone.( i've tried most of them ,lol) but seemingly pipercross have stopped making the vectorcone, though i dont know why, its a cracking filter & i ran right through the winter with it with no problems.
open type filters are a bugger to set up, mess up the mixture & the foam ones dont like getting wet.
one compromise, if you really have to have an open filter, is to re-fit the airbox with all the internals removed & use it as a cover for the open air filter.
(both snorkels opened up & trumpet/neck cut right down).
if you still have the airbox, i'd start with that & see how you get on in the wet.
(there fairly cheap secondhand)
cheers,
GAZ
