Ok other than the usual general bike checks is there anything model specific i should be looking for when purchasing a J1 ninja?? Any common leaks, premature wearing parts, parts prone to corrosion etc? Iv heard the six pots can stick etc but any other pointers would be good
thanks

Well, I'd usually check that their Shurikens aren't rusty, and that they are a bona fide Ninjitsu practicioner, and not a dressed up pirate. The swords get dull after a few years and so budget for sharpening..
otherwise keep him topped up with Sake and mystical energy and he'll be 100% reliable.
Any chance we can find out exactly what type of bike you're referring to here? ZX6R? ZX9R? GPZ900R? ZXR400? ZX7R? ZXR750? 250 Ninja?
Sorry, but its one of my pet hates that people use the word 'Ninja' to describe a bike. Its not a Ninja its a ZX6R or ZX9R or whatever. Similarly it annoys me when people type r6 or cbr into the forum when it is clearly R6 or CBR. Dunno why that annoys me, but it does. Ninja is the sort of thing a ten year old kid would call a bike, so I don't know why Kawasaki use it.
I've gone off Ninjas now, I prefer Pirates again!

To be fair, he said J1... which means it's a 00 ZX6R.. dontcha know anything? Typical pirate person .
Oh and Kawasaki use 'Ninja' because it seems to sell bikes, especially in the US. Possibly better than 'fireblade' etc! (Let's not forget one of your bikes is named after a goat, too .) |

To be fair I see Marjay's point, it gives me rage as well. Maybe I have an OCD or something. ____________________ My Flickr |

My apologies again, then… it seems the Pampera is just described as ‘like a goat’, not actually named after one.
Oh and if you’re not a Kawasaki geek, you probably wouldn’t be able to help . |

No but I'd normally turn to Google and type 'ZX6R J1 problems'. Plus its a generic 600 sports, which have common issues.
I'd say check second gear - that it doesn't drop out of second under hard acceleration, head bearings - that the bars turn freely and smoothly from lock to lock, check the wheels turn freely and the brakes aren't seized and that the engine starts easily and idles with no loud rattles or smoke. Machine gun rattle at idle could be cam chain tensioner and obviously do the usual of budgeting for consumables such as tyres, chains, brake pads etc.
I'd also test to see if the discs ar warped, because although I'm not a Kawasaki G33k, I do know that the 6 pot brake caliper bikes are prone to warping discs. Much like the ZX9R with the 6 pots..

Ok so if you have no interest in helping why even post?? I did state J1 which most Kawasaki 'g33ks' as you refer to them would realise the bike i meant is a 00 zx6r. I could also have meant an older zx750 apparently so my mistake So to clarify its a ZX6R if that makes you happier. Also i did state MODEL SPECIFIC not usual checks which you seem to have given me a rake of. Nice one. |
