Hi,

With my course i need to find a 12 month placement and yesterday got past the first stage of the interview.

Anyway, i have to go for a half day assessment. The assessment is a 'a day in the life' style where you have an in-tray and have to meet actual members of company acting and you have to derive a solution to a problem i have been told.

So, my question is has anyone done one of these sorts of interviews? any tips? cant say i have done anything like this before and feel a bit nervous im going to balls it up!!

Any help is greatly appreciated!! Thumbs Up

We do similar assessment centres in the civil service, so here is some generic guidance.

Most important - get a good night's sleep the night before, and get there in good time. Do any prep work well in advance so you aren't cramming on the way there.

Read their website, see what they do, have a think about the kind of tasks they might expect you to do, and the kind of issues that may come up. There is a fair chance the simulated task will be something urgent, to see how you work under pressure.

Relax, be friendly, enjoy it. Treat the whole day as an experience. The whole meeting people/building relationships aspect is likely to be key if they tell you about it in advance, so concentrate on that bit on the day, and make sure you take the other people's comments on board when you write your report or whatever it is.

Thanks robby, that's very helpful.

In the morning i will 5 members of the company, many of which seem to be high up in the company.

I printed off the job discription and will read up more on the website.

Anyone know of any websites?

General advice for a work situation:
Ask for help if you need it.
But only if you are sure the answer isn't accessible with a bit of work on your part.
First, ask first who the right person to ask it.
Then ask if they can point you towards an already documented answer.
Write down notes on the help you are given; it's particularly annoying when you have to help some one with the same thing several times because they couldn't be bothered to try and record it at the time.

I've had a 'on the job' interview before, but it involved trying to 'sell' some scammy photos for a couple of hours. They liked me, I thought they sucked, in that case.

And stick a couple of vibrating eggs up your ass before you go - helps you relax

So I've heard.
