Hello guys..

I have a couple more things to sort out with my bike before its ready for the road again.

First.. the clutch.. when I shift into gear the first time after a start (the first start of the day).. the bike kinda jumps forward although its in neutral.. warming up the engine does not seem to help much either.. the clutch seems to engaged although the I'm holding it in. Does anybody else have this same issue?

Second.. the chain.. I have a nasty tight spot on my chain.. and its difficult to adjust the tension correctly cause it really slacks off on one side and become too tight on the other.. this happened after I cleaned it up with kerosene... any ideas?

lastly.... how on earth do you lubricate cables? and what oils are best for the job? I don't hae any special tool for it.. only an oil can!

Thanks for taking time to read.. now please Smile reply!

Same as me M8, no way out! You need a new chain and/or sprocket set Sad

The most likely is the chain, but it's not woth changing just the chain, change the lot M8 Sad

Hunter,

By the way if yours is an NSR125 the clutch on my 2001 NSR was exactly the same! Seems a common problem, I lived with it with no probs!

Mole!

Saviour! Cheers for the input.. I feel a lot better about them now heheh :)

My chain/sprokets look good though.. its a bitch cause the chain was good until I cleaned (with kerosene) and re-oiled it!!

Take my advice everybody.. it comes from experience.. hehehe.. if it ain't broke don't fix it.. :P

Hi

If it was an O ring chain you cleaned with parafin then it is pretty much buggered.

Clutch adjustment might help, but to be honest it is not an uncommon problem (although my 1200 Bandit has a smooth box when cold and clunky when hot).

Some bikes suffer from this clutch problem as the clutch basket wears small grooves from the plates which causes it to stick a bit

All the best

Keith

Now keith, I dont mean to belittle your vast experiance in any way but my clutch does the same and I was told that it was just cuz it was cold and after a gear change or two its got warm so stops clunkin.
Is that not the case??

Hi Jams

Yes, most of the time it is the oil. However, you can still get the problem on bikes with dry clutches, so oil isnt the only cause. I know that old Moto Morini bikes suffer the clutch wear problems, and I have heard of it on FZs as well.

All the best

Hey Keith! How do you tell if you have an O'ring chain?

Also.. can I service the RC valve without removing the engine (I.e. lowering the engine)? Do I need replacement gaskets if I service the RC valve?

Is there any service recommended for the servo motor? or should I just leave the bugger alone! Smile

Look at the side plates of the chain. If it is an O ring chain you will see a little rubber ring between the outer side plates and the inner side plates

Not sure there is much you can really do. Looks like you need to take off the top of the engine to get at the valve properly. Why do you think it needs any work?

Thanks Keith!

The reason I wanted to have a look at the RC valve was because (I had actually posted this elsewhere!)...

The other day I was checking the RC valve.. when i found that once in about 3-6 times when I rev the engine (upto 4000 or so) and cut-off using the Engine kill switch.. I expected a short whirr (buzzing noise) from the servo.. but.. I heard a longer whirr ( twice as long as the the usual whir you get from the RC valve).

It seems like on certain occasions the Servo gets a bit confused!! and whirrs a while longer than usual. Not sure why! Any Ideas?

cheers! Smile
