New shoes, oil, coolant, bulbs, filter, sparks and a gasket drain plug for £200 (including labour). Bike is a Kwak, 2001.
Whaddya think? Like some comparisons to see if I should go back to the bloke next time. |
If he's done a good job and balanced the carbs/throttle bodies, lubed the cables and levers etc, then yes it was a very good deal.
If he's done a crap job then you've thrown your money away. Doesn't matter if you spend £5 or £500 a crap job is a crap job. ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F

Typically on my ZX6R-F,
£200 is good enough to get oil and filters done and valves checking if they don't need shimming. Most of it is labour, so if you can factor out the price for parts, you can start to see where the savings lie.
In my case, because i clock about 12000 miles a year, almost all my main services are major (i do small bits myself)
£320 sees
Oil & Filter change
Valve checked & shimming
Carb balancing
Brake strip & rebuild
That was at some back street garage in edinburgh. If that was at my usual garage in Loughborough, I'd only get Oil & Filters + valves and possibly brake strip i that price.. I tend to try and do my own servicing now and leave the lazy stuff to the mechanics. Bleeding your own brakes can take a long time if you're doing it for the first time, but you'll save £30 quid if you do it yourself, same with an oil change. Changing your brake pads is a 5 minute job.
Having said that, if you cock up spectacularly, then you feel that it was probably better off taking it to a garage, but i like learning from my mistakes (read as destroying sumps and shrearing off bolts!) so next time you'll know what to expect. ____________________ The Tot 2019 Z1000SX - 2007 R1
