Hi all,

There is a new law inforced today where as if you speed by over 20mph over the limit...you will face a 6 points on your licence and more than likley a ban Surprised

For example:

20mph zone and your doing 42mph = 6 points(possibly a ban)

I do belive this is aimed more at motorcycleists more than car drivers.

Allthough they say its to stop people under the influance of drugs driving.

Anyway a warning to you all!

Cheers Thumbs Up

I think its a good idea to be honest. I mean most sensible drivers will do 35-40mph in a 30 and 45-50mph in a 40 and so on and I hope the Police use a bit more common sense when they stop someone doing 36 in a 30 and use this new proposed law to hit the people seriously speeding harder.

I mean if your doing over 50 in a 30 you're asking for trouble.

Trouble is that for doing 29% over the motorway speed limit they are want to hit you for the same penalty as 66% over the limit in a 30 limit.

All the best

They must hate kittens it you only have to go less than half as far over the kitten free 70 limit to get the same penalty.

All the best

Fair point, but doing it based on percentages or different levels for different speed limits is just going to complicate the issue.

Up the speed limit on the mway to 80mph and the 6 point limit will be a ton and i think if your doing over the ton on a mway 6 points is a fair penalty.

forget the Kittens. What about all the rabbits around Stanstead!
The speeding doesn't bother me really. I don't speed in 30mph zones. At the most, I might do 50 in a 40. But thats if i know the area. And I might do 80-85 on a Motorway, but only ever to overtake a bunch of lorrys in an elephant race, then go back to 70

Hi

Personal feeling is that they should get rid of the fixed penalty system. All speeding tickets would then need to go to court with the police as witnesses (so no speed cameras either). This would limit the amount of tickets, so should mean only those worthwhile are pursued.

Alternative would be to still allow automated ticketing but only at a level at which it cannot be safe to travel. So probably at least double the current speed limits. Maybe call it a seperate offence (Furious Speeding?), and at such a level there would be no exemption for anyone.

Anything law which the majority of the population breaks regularly and which every year millions are prosecuted for breaking is a bad law. Almost all of those offences are irrelevant. Save the legal sledge hammer for the small number who actually deserve it.

All the best

Keith

speed cameras arnt there for safty...it to get money out of us.

if anything they cause accidents.....when someone sees a speed-camera they slam their brakes on imediatly because they dont want the £60 fine, then a rear shunt from matey behind.

and if they dont get hit..they just speed up again after the camera to usaly more than they speed they were doing before as they know its unlikley there will be another speeed camera for a while Confused

luke.

While I think they are stupidly used, I do not think they are there to get money. ~3m speeding tickets, at £60 a piece is only £180 a year. Take off the cost of processing them, maintaining the cameras, posting out penalties, etc and it is probably half that. Say £100m profit. Which is a tiny amount. Less than a days worth of road taxation. Certainly not enough to make it financially worthwhile, given how much bans, etc, cost the country (and hence reduce the tax take).

My view is that they are put in for imaginary road safety reasons by those who fancy a bit of empire building and supported by well meaning fools who have believed the "speed kills" lies.

All the best

Keith

Money out of people who are incapable of spotting big yellow boxes on top of poles at the road side. Not to mention missing the lines painted on the roads giving their position away. Wink

Not really. By the time you get into a position to be able to see a talivan it has probably already clocked you. Just check them on the A449 towards Wolvo where the sit a few hundred yards after a bend with trees in the middle of the dual carraieway ready to zap people a they come into view.

All the best

It's not the static cameras you have to worry about. I don't know anyone who has been caught by a Gatso/Truvelo etc but I do know plenty done by the scamera partnerships and their mobile jobbies.

In some countries speed cameras are hidden and there is no sign that a speed camera is ahead, imagine that

I was doing 109mph on the M4( i think it is m4 Very Happy ) to that shopping thing near Bridgent some kind of designer outlet or something and i was doing 115mph(stupid i know) and i saw a car on the top of the bridge, i slowed down pretty quick nearly had an accident (damn) and slowed down to 70 mph but, after 3 moths and after i moved to east england from South Wales, i got a letter that i need to come to court because of speeding ( first letter just ask me to confirm that i was riding bla bla) and i needed to go to court in South Wales in NewPort. Aparently i was caught doing 109 mph limit was 70, so i went to court all the way to newport, and then i got banned for 2 weeks and got a pay a fee £500. What saved me was a really nice letter from my employer and my sad eyes Smile) I was dressed nicely in a suit and well presented and i took the thing seriously ( i nearly shite my self on the court). I did not have any points before that. So i was lucky. I was speeding since of course im not traveling 70mh on motorway all the time sometimes i go 71+ few+few, but i think to go on the motorway you are alright doing 85-90 mph when traffic is not bad. To do 50 in 30mph zone well i dont remember that i ever done it, that is a bit more dangerous i wount like the idea to live with a thought that i killed some child. Speeding is dangerous, even if the drivers are got i know, but i dont think is possible to be 100 clean from speeding. I dont do the same 100+mph any more secound time i wount be that lucky and i need a car for job, and job to pay the mortage
