Hi, i have to take this new route to work and cant avoid heavy traffic on a single lane road that is heavily congested on the way home.
So naturally i filter to the front, but its very tight. Heres the expected paint diagram
Red = Cars on left (my lane)
Blue = Oncoming cars in right lane
Orange = My filtering route (being careful for the junction )
Green blob = Me
Although ive never had a problem in the limited time ive been taking the route, could it get me in trouble and is it a) worth it b) legal? Bearing in mind the traffic is very heavy, usually not moving and would take around 20-30 mins to get through .

Thats got to be the best paint diagram i have seen in a long while
As long as there aren't solid white lines down the middle then you aren't technically doing anything illegal. However if you caused an accident (or was involved in 1) on the bendy bit of the road then you could be seriously abused by the boys in blue, probably got overtaking on a corner and dangerous driving or something. ____________________ It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt, then it's bloody hilarious!!! |

If it's a solid white line then it's illegal to cross that and you could get in trouble for that. Need to be very careful if you're filtering when approaching the junction.
I wouldn't sit waiting in the traffic. |

I love the different shades of green! So much care!.
Looks a little tight. If those roads are as bendy as that, I'd be reluctant to filter - I look to see a good 50 metres ahead iff I filter.
Maybe stop next time you are there and take some snaps so we can guage the blind bends? ____________________ no regrets, no retreat, no apology.

i would just hop past the cars, one after another. after all, you still make it to the front before them
as said, mind the white solid line (on your side) but be aware of impatient drivers that floor it and turn right at that junction. ____________________ ZX636C6F road. ZX636C1H track. ZX7R redundant. ZX0.5R minimoto as ornament.

A link to road on Google Maps is easier than taking photos of the bends. |

At least im not getting a unanimous NO which is what i was scared of Again it seems, like 99% of filtering, that its a grey area.
If i was on my 50 still it would be easier , but on my zxr im finding it harder to balance at super low speed, so have to be careful, i find my self just flicking the mirrors in and creeping my way through, occasionally pulling in and ifnding space for big vehicles, lorries etc. and gradually making my way upto the junction.
Thanks for the replies so far |

As Rotax said, just hop past the cars. Pay attention at the junction though, there will be a time when someone decides to U turn there because they're fed up with waiting. I had a similar road layout to navigate on my last commute, and there was always the arsehole who thought that since they had to sit in the queue, you did too.
Is it really the only route you can take? ____________________ Chances are quite high you are not in my Monkeysphere, and I don't care about you. Don't take it personally.

I'd filter if it was legal/safe/necessary in that order, hopping cars would be the way to do it 1 or 2 at a time. As for the junction, I'd join the queue and pass the junction in the queue not alongside another vehicle. ____________________ My claim to fame: Austin Vince nicked my pen... |

As others have said, as long as there isn't a solid like legally it is ok. - even white lines you can cross under certain circumstances!! ... but as a general rule, solid white is a no-no and you WILL get points and a fine if caught (been there done that), the police love it as it is an easy nick!
If you go at silly speed, then the roz will have you, but with a speed differential of say <=15mph, as long as you are not weaving in and out frantically, then you will probably be left alone.
Also consider it is illegal to overtake on the zig-zags before of after a pelican crossing, so you have to wait your turn there. ____________________ The purpose of life is to fight maturity. |

Try to not be the 'meat in the sandwich' too often if you are going to do it. Watch for people letting others out of the junction and dont over commit yourself when overtaking, i.e dont be doing 50 when the traffic is stationary, this way you can pull back in if you misjudge an approaching car.
This time of year when its dark in the mornings aso look for reflections in the sides of the cars ahead of you for oncoming headlights.
Keep your eye on the ball and dont daydream either!
