I save some cash up and repair it myself. itll probably cost more in the long run in priemiums as the claim will be on your insurance for 3 years
Plus take a picture of the damage
You get a real sence of achivement when its repaired and you look at it and say I fixed that ____________________ DL650 Vstrom 2004

By sounds of it your looking Catagory D.
Just cosmetic, dosnt sound like anything serious really, altho if there feeling mean could go to a cat c.
never worth claiming to be honest,
especially when you come to sell the car and it has a history or a cat d repair or c. puts buyers right off ____________________ Past: '05 Peugeot XPS '99 Aprillia RS125 '94 FZR600R

It all depennds on how much you like the bike and how much you dont mind paying on insurance.
Ive never had a yamaha so dont know the prices but... My best friend had a ZX6R that my Girlfriend backed over in her car.
It worked out at 350 for a top fairing, 300 for a side fairing, 20'odd for a mirror and 10 for the bar end. There was no casing damage but I bought an alternator cover for my honda when I crashed and it cost about 60 odd quid. Add onto that a seat unit at approx the same as a side fairing (another 300?) plus the gear lever etc then it adds up to quite a lot. Bear in mind the insurance company will be looking at new parts and not second hand, coupled with their (I think) 2/3rds rule then the bike will be written off. This isnt taking into account anything you cant see or dont know is damaged or bent.
Im not sure what an 8 year old R6 is worth but to the insurance thats definately a CAT D at the least. You have to decide if its worth fixing from second hand ebay parts or handing it over to the insurance nazis.
Either way Im sorry to hear about your off mate, at least your not too badly hurt. ____________________ RS125 > CBR6 > SV650S > ZX636R > GSX1300RZ Hayabusa > 06 RSVR Mille > SV1000S > Street Triple 765 RS |

thanks for your replies so far. had a good look at the damage today and to repair everything to pre accident will take:
front light, nose cone, left hand suspension fork, upper l/h fairing, bottom l/h fairing, clutch lever, bar end, front l/h indicator, l/h engine casing, gear lever, pillion l/h footpeg and seat fairing unit. not sure what damage could have been done to the engine but it seems to rattle now.
all in all it seems a lot and i reckon an insurance write off. what sort of money do you think i could get offered for a 2000 r6 that was in immaculate condition prior to accident (as they can see from the right hand side). i don't want to get ripped off but have never had an accident in either a car or bike before so never had to claim on insurance. any help would be gratefully received.
cheers guys |
