Help please!

Should be in workshop but im in a bit of a panic, got A2 training at 3.00.
and everytime i start my bike up petrols coming out of the bottom bit.

Im guessing its a overflow.
why would it start doing this?
is there a way to fix it asap?

Give your carburettor a few lights taps with the handle of a screwdriver. It might be a sticky carb float.

Hi

Not sure on the bike. However at a guess it is something with a vacuum fuel tap.

With these petrol only flows when the engine is running. Hence when you start it petrol can cause the float bowl to over flow.

If the float bowl is overflowing it suggests a worn needle valve, some dirt in the needle valve, sticking floats or damaged carb floats. Dirt in the needle valve is the most likely. Tapping the float bowl (as above) can sometimes dislodge this.

Next quick attempt. Drain the float bowl fully. Then turn the petrol on (either onto prime, or crank the engine over). With luck the dirt will be flushed out by the rush of petrol from the tank with the floats at their low point.

You may have some dirt lodged in the float needle then. Not much you can do short of stripping the float bowl off and checking it. Have you recently run out of fuel or run the tank almost empty? It could have dragged some crap into the float needle.

Not recently ran it down
to drain float boal its the screw above the overflow right.
ill go do that now

Hi

Normally the screw at the bottom of the float bowl. Might be your overflow pipe comes from the bottom of the float bowl, in which case yes the screw will likely be just above it.

Ye just tried alot of fuel came out.
started it up again,
and it stopped pissin out for a min, then when i let the bike die back down to normal rev's it started leakin again...


should the float have a metal pin holding it in position, as i hear alot about resetting float heights, possible mine aint set?
last time i saw the carb apart there wasnt a metal pin holding the float?

Afraid it sounds like you will have to do the job properly (or at least, less of a bodge way).

What bike is it? Can you get the float bowl off quickly? If so whip the float bowl off (you may be able to slacken the clamps on the carb and rotate it to make it easier to get at the float bowl). Find the needle valve (it will be near the pivot for the floats). If poss remove the floats and remove the needle. Blow through the needle valve orifice (maybe use carb cleaner if available). Check the needle is clean and undamaged. Reassemble.

Also possible that the pipe inside the float bowl that is the overflow has snapped off.

Fixed,
took it to the my matey mechanic.
and when i mate had the carb open last night he didnt put the float pin back in, so the float was sitting at the bottom =/
had to walk about half a mile and got a pin for free off another mechanic. put it in and its fine.

the only slight issue ive got is my throttle dosnt return properly atm chooses when it wants to lmao.

Didnt get there in time.
I had to go find a mechanics who had a float bar, so took me a bit of a trek.
by which time it was already 3:30 and appointment was 3:00.
