I usually just leave it parked up with the steering lock on if it's in town or at the supermarket, unless its somewhere particuarly grotty looking. Usually try and park it somewhere well lit and visible too.
Also try and park it within sight of a more desirable bike, which generally isn't too difficult ____________________ A2 passed 22/07/08; restriction up 22/07/10 (just so I don't forget)

When I crashed mine, it took 5 fully grown blokes(not small guys either)to lift it out of the middle of't road and onto a flat bed to be ferried off to storage, unless they're taking a ped then it's not easy, a bigger bike is more work. |
Difference is they only need to lift the front of the bike. Basically lift the front wheel and wheel it anywhere. I have seen a few videos of 3 guys stealing big new bikes. 2 guys walking down a street, some sort of car/van pulls up one guy opens the door and then the 2 guys quickly move the bike into the van/car.
Quite easy to lift the front of a bike.
My helper, who is also the heavy gardener (big tonk guy) actually manhandled my Hornet into the van. And he had to lift it. The 6 guys who had trouble moving the bike on the ground had faces of shock, quite literally like & as he manhandled the thing.
As for? I pretty much always lock the NC when I work at next with a monster chain. At chicago's it's just in gear and steering lock. CCTV footage and a load of bouncers who know me
Other places? Tend to just have it steering lock and in gear... Sometimes use disc lock but very rarely do. ____________________ '99 Hornet 600 , VFR 400 NC30 '92 , Kasawamasaki GT 550 , '98 Hornet 600

There isnt any way to stop someone stealing motorbikes, all you can do is do you best to slow them down, or make them go for the less secured bikes.
Like this thread it seems like it was a steal it because its there, aka opertunist theif, if a simple chain was on it they wouldnt have bothered, but if a professional theif wants your bike its only a matter of time, Hence why some people might sound like there over the top with chains, ground anchors, alarms, covers, disclocks, but the longer it takes the theif to try and have the bike away the more chance he will get caught or seen doing it and scarper. ____________________ Past: '05 Peugeot XPS '99 Aprillia RS125 '94 FZR600R

5 blokes weren't 'weak', they average around 18/20 stone each and that isn't idle fat.
I'm not talking a ped, you can virtually pick up the motor/rear wheel with a hand from a ped, a 'bike' is a bit different, the engine on a 125 is roughly 2/3rds of the weight to start(more), not accounting for bigger frames and heavier parts generally. Anyone want to pot a vid or link one of 3 peps or less lifting a 125+ into a van? Or karting it off?
I've lifted my whole front off the deck by the forks on a BCF ride no probs, back end too but I would never try and lift it as one item.
All I'm sayin is a ped is one thing, a 600cc is another.
Also, you will never stop a bike being stolen, if they want it, it will vanish we can only slow them down and make it harder. ____________________ Roger wrote: Women don't get damp for clingy puppies. Get some better happy pills, hit the gym & buy a medallion the size of a dinner plate. Job done |

Yeah molly, agreed.
chives, that old chestnut.. I never said it can't happen, but a group that have set out to do it (as in that vid) will be far more equipped in experience, skill and tools than an opportunist chav type thief. ____________________ Roger wrote: Women don't get damp for clingy puppies.
