a little story here...

a friend of mine had an old vespa scooter parked on the driveway... and from what i can only asume was chavs, stole the damn thing!
only to be found a few blocks away with the petrol switch on 'off' (oh yess there a bright bunch these chavs.. )

anyway!
iv always tryed to avoide leaving my bike parked where groups of people hang around, even places like Mcdonalds if i had to

any1 els try to avoide leaving there pride and joy for some scum to kick over and set fire to?

I have recently moved house and the garage isn't as good as my last one. Although i have only move 5 miles away from my last house I'm on pins all the time, Bike is locked, alarmed, twice immobilised, chained, ground anchored, under a cover in a locked garage at the end of a long driveway, but I'm still waiting for it to be nicked one day/night.

i just use the stearing lock when im out and about, just gone to the shops or a friends house...

any1 els get all there locks and alarms out for leaving it outside sainsburys for 15 minutes?

I usually just leave it parked up with the steering lock on if it's in town or at the supermarket, unless its somewhere particuarly grotty looking. Usually try and park it somewhere well lit and visible too.

Also try and park it within sight of a more desirable bike, which generally isn't too difficult

I keep mine in the house, but when out and about I try to leave it where I can see it, or when at supermarket, leave it in sight of security guard, who happens to know me.

I always use the disc lock and stick it in gear, got a thing for forgetting to refill it so often have to leave it in random streets round my end with just a disc lock on till I can get it refilled, would never leave it more than 5-10 mins though.

great, so im gona have to avoide vans aswell as McDonalds

and also chain it to a lampost or something similar!

so there is no way of stopping people nicking motorbikes then...?

There isnt any way to stop someone stealing motorbikes, all you can do is do you best to slow them down, or make them go for the less secured bikes.

Like this thread it seems like it was a steal it because its there, aka opertunist theif, if a simple chain was on it they wouldnt have bothered, but if a professional theif wants your bike its only a matter of time, Hence why some people might sound like there over the top with chains, ground anchors, alarms, covers, disclocks, but the longer it takes the theif to try and have the bike away the more chance he will get caught or seen doing it and scarper.

Agree with the above, if someone wants to nick your bike badly enough they will eventually.

5 blokes weren't 'weak', they average around 18/20 stone each and that isn't idle fat.

I'm not talking a ped, you can virtually pick up the motor/rear wheel with a hand from a ped, a 'bike' is a bit different, the engine on a 125 is roughly 2/3rds of the weight to start(more), not accounting for bigger frames and heavier parts generally. Anyone want to pot a vid or link one of 3 peps or less lifting a 125+ into a van? Or karting it off?

I've lifted my whole front off the deck by the forks on a BCF ride no probs, back end too but I would never try and lift it as one item.

All I'm sayin is a ped is one thing, a 600cc is another.

Also, you will never stop a bike being stolen, if they want it, it will vanish we can only slow them down and make it harder.

you will be surprised just flicking the engine stop switch, the roofer at work tryed to play a trick on me and got my keys and tryed to get it round the block but for the life of him could not start it.

but myt bike it locked with a dicklock and alarmed when out and about and then when at work and home its locked to something unmoveable like a post

but if they wanted it the can have it. ill get a new one from the insurance. and it will probally be in better condition than my one.

Yeah molly, agreed.

chives, that old chestnut.. I never said it can't happen, but a group that have set out to do it (as in that vid) will be far more equipped in experience, skill and tools than an opportunist chav type thief.
