consequences of a race exhaust on my cpi 50 sx

hi all, im new to these forums, i have been riding since i was 4 but i am new to the road as i have just recently got my first bike on the road (CPI SX 50), the bike is still restricted and im in the process of running it in etc, i know there a derestriction pack available for my bike from the dealer which doesnt effect the warranty which is: full derestriction from exhaust, bigger jets for carb and a front and rear sprocket kit to gear up for more speed, i have been lookin on utube at bikes like mine and came across a few with technigas enox exhausts, i emailed a guy on utube from manchester and asked him if he had ever been stopped for it and he says he has drove past many police cars and been in front/ behind them and never been pulled for it, what i want to know is how do the police tell that it is an illegal exhaust and what will happen if i am caught with an illegal exhaust on my bike, thanks alot, adam

P.S. bear in mind my bike is classed as a moped with it being restricted and i am only 16

i dont think the exhaust will be illegal,


but on your insurance it will be classed as a mod, which you will not have declared on your insurance so if you have an accident and they find out then your insurance will be void.

Also if it increases the bike performance enough to take you over 30mph,guessing your on L's then technically your not legal to drive the bike as you dont have the correct licence

it must be illegal because the guy selling them on ebay has got in capitals FOR OFFROAD USE ONLY or race use only i cant remember and these exhausts have no catalylic converter (i dont know if thats the right spelling lol), do you think it will easy for cops to spot it or not

Remember putting a different exhaust to standard WILL invalidate your warrenty.

and i think its a 30 fine if they can prove its illegal,
so best way is to file and polish out the not for road use bit.

The exhaust itself isn't illegal as long as it isn't de-restricted, however a new exhaust which is still restricted will make absolutely no difference to your performance, it will just look and sound a little different.

Bear in mind:
You are more likely to get pulled over with an after market exhaust (whether restricted or not) as it attracts attention, and this could get you in the shit for other things they wouldn't have otherwise noticed.

If you de restrict the exhaust the moped is now classed as a motorcycle and as such you do not have the correct license to ride it, your insurance will also be invalidated.

As already said it will be counted as a modifiction from factory condition whether restricted or not and you will not have declared this on your insurance which will also void it.

Basically it's perfectly legal to have an after market exhaust on your bike as long as it's still restricted, and have declared it on insurance (not sure if you'll still get insured though!)

all the times i have been stoped they have never bothered about the exahust system on my dt and sx50. Just dont be flying past them on a dual carridge way at 50 coz they will know somthings up. My mate has had some traffic cops pull him up but he said the usual "yes sir, no sir, three bags full sir" and got away with it. Realisticaly i think they know that most scooters got one, i belive it is stupid not to. i had a vivacity that could make it to 32mph downhill with the wind behind me and that was unsafe as evry car was doing me on the outside and if anythin did happen i would not have enough vrummm to get me out the way.

i have been told that it doenst have anything else written on it except from technigas enox, theres no "NOT FOR ROAD USE" or "FOR OFFROAD USE ONLY" stamped on the exhaust so they couldnt really prove it could they, the bike is gettin derestricted anyway whether i get the technigas or not because like many others say it is more dangerous going at restricted speeds on most roads, so would you guys say it is okay as long as i dont go to quick near cops

no this would void my insurance anyway because obviously a aftermarket race exhaust isnt gonna have a restriction or a cat so i wouldnt have the licence for it remember im only 16 lol
