a new spark plug is a good start.
has the engine ever been serviced, as in 'cleaned out of all its carbon deposits'
could be a new set of rings needed.

many things could be the prob.

As rotax has said the rings usually start going out
or the systems get bunged up with carbon.
Peticularlly exhaust system, which is vital for 2 strokes with backpressure nd all.

I'd still check the belt and rollers first, as they don't last that long on a tuned twist and go from my experience. If the engine doesn't sound right or rev as well as it used to then a compression check is a good idea, but i doubt that the performance would suddenly drop off like that from engine wear alone. Unless you have been unlucky and snapped a ring etc?

^^^^ Thumbs Up

yeah the rollers develop flatspots over time wich lowers performance

clean the air filter , check the belt for wear, you could clean the carb , de-coke the exhasut as rotax said and just give it a generall service ,

when was the last time it had a new piston or rings ? 17000km is a fair bit for a 50

don't think the Malossi belt is too important or even worth fitting with a std variator TBH. The rollers however should have been changed to the type and weight reccomended by the manufacturer of the race pipe that you are using. The clutch springs may also need to be changed to suit some pipe's which actually make alot less power than std before the power band, which is why you sometimes need to get the clutch to bite at higher rpm than std for some race pipes to work properly and not bog down off the line.
