Over the few days I have off over new years I'm going to strip and repaint the Africa Twin , probably to a red/white/blue scheme sort
like this
https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3110/2367195754_af8e6c83ff.jpg?v=0
except where it is white have it red, and where it is red have it white (using stickers) ...
Question is what sand paper do I need , grain/brands etc....since I've no idea at all , keeping it hammerite black isn't ideal as I intend to cross deserts on this bike and having a black bike may mean more heat gets absorbed and the CBR in Spain was like riding a small oven in an oven.
And how much will I need to cover the entire surface area (sand paper).
OR
Can I rig up my angle grinder / drill with some sort of sanding disc?.
Thoughts appreciated.

There are several brands doing sandpaper etc,
and usually the only advantage of the more expensive ones are less prone to clogging up with paint, as when its clogged its useless.
The more expensive better finishing products are 3M & Mirka
Depending on what your doing with the job depends on the P grade needed,
~ If just preparing it for paint then P800 wet and dry. or around 500 if using a dry pad or sheet.
~ If you have fairing scuffs etc, then you will need to move down around the 320/400 dry stage, Although minor stonechips etc can be done with the 800 wet and dry.
Well most places that sell the stuff sell it in packs of 10 sheets upwards.
Example, although this link is 10 half sheets making 5 whole sheets, it would be do-able with that amount but im just countering in for if you paint it, and it dosnt come out how you like and have to restart the process, as of course it does happen to the best of us.

You can rig angle grinders up with backing pads to do it, but this is hard to find the right backing pad with the right velcro underside to take the sanding discs you can buy on the market, but if you can find a backing pad to fit to a angle grinder the sandin discs are 150mm, although they will be dry pads and not wet&dry ones as you'd expect.
Hope that helps.
If you need any more just post again and ill try.
