Have just rebuilt a cj250t from a box of bits .Everything fine exept i cannot sort clutch out.I can engage gears ok but ,when you pull clutch in on centre stand its still in gear and wheel keeps spinning ,if you try and stop wheel spinning bike will cut out.
Iv tryed adjusting cable at both ends. But if i adjust it to much ,it just goes pop! and to much slack then nothing at all. Exclamation

it's a very long time since i worked on one of those engines, but here goes off the top of me head .....

slacken both ends of the cable off (loads of slack) ...

now on the cover the cable goes thru there's another cover to remove, under that is a screwhead with a 12mm locknut ...

slacken the locknut then screw the slotted head in until it loads up, back it off half a turn and tighten the locknut ....

adjust the cover end of the cable until you have approx 10mm of play at the lever ...

then at the lever adjust until you only have 5mm of play ....

clutch should now work ...

if the clutch slips you won't have backed off the slotted head enough and will have to readjust the cable as well

out of curiosity, when you reassembled the engine and fitted the clutch basket/hub there is a big nut and washer holding it onto the shaft (going by memory), you did fit them both correctly and the hub doesn't slide back and forth does it ??

if it does then you'll not get the clutch to release as the release mech' doesn't have enough travel to take up any play
