Trying to get my fairings off to fix a leak in the exhaust, the nut connected to the bolt going through the crash bung wont come off, its just spinning.

Tried putting some pull pressure on the crash bung as I turn the bolt but it wont come. Its a fairly new bolt thats been over tightened I expect.

But the space is very limited to get into it, I cant even cut the bolt as there is nowhere to get in as you can see from picture.

Any suggestions?

You could maybe chisel it off, as in put a chisel beside it and bang it with a hammer and slice through the bolt?

Can you drill the head off the bolt holding the bung on?

Mind you from the pictute ,it looks feasable to get a spanner on the inboard nut. If you can then its just a socket on the bung end and all should be good? Confused

Getting a spanner on the nut and socket on the bolt is not the problem.

As I say the nut is just spinning and not coming off.

Does there look enough room to get a nut splitter on there?

Doesn't look like there is anything good for leverage but maybe a carefully placed pry bar or piece of wood to place pressure of the end of the bolt, forcing it out, while using a spanner on the nut.

A lot of patience and a file on the nut. Or just a small hacksaw blade, not in the frame.

are you 100% sure the socket is fitting over the bolt head inside the bung,as you said the nut is just spinning which would not happen its the bolt that you should see turning when you have the spanner on the nut. Rolling Eyes

I agree but if the thread has been knackered on either the bolt or nut then it will just keep going round.

if thats the case itchy it must be a real shite nut an bolt ( monkey metal ) looks like it could be 8m or 10m bolt to. personally I would just drill the bolt head off if its that soft.

I 'm guessing that they may well make them out of softer material simply so that it doesn't damage the frame when they hit the floor. No idea if this is true just that in the crash photo's I've seen most bungs seem to bend.

Hi

Deep socket should hold the bolt in the crash bung, but might not be space for it.

Alternative would be to double nut the threaded end, and then use those to hold the bolt while you undo the troublesome nut. Not sure if there will be space for this either.

All the best

Keith

Cheers Keith never thought of that, will give that a go first as there should just be enough space, if not I can just about get the nut splitter on it Twisted Evil
