Hello lads and lasses.

I've had what was supposed to be a low-cost project in my garage for half a year now. No, it's not a car - only a 50cc moped actually. You noticed that I wrote that it was supposed to be a low cost project, well, it kind of escalated after I photoshopped a picture of the original bike to what it would be nice to have it look like. Until this date I've spent about £3500 on it so far, and it's supposed to be up for sale and finished sometime in January.

Well, anyways, here's the photoshop. Google Derbi Senda R 2000 to see the original bike.
https://i11.tinypic.com/6b4rl2w.jpg

The project is sponsored by:
https://img443.imageshack.us/img443/6423/sotq1.gif

And here's the shopping list and specs for it:

Engine:
Airsal 75cc cylinder
Dell'Orto 21mm carb.
Hebo Titan performance exhaust
MVT Millenium ignition (Coil, CDI etc)
MVT Millenium lightened flywheel
NGK B9RS spark plug
NGK ignition cord
21mm inlet
Metrakit SP performance clutch

Frame/other:
New SM tires dim. 110/70/17 (front) 140/70/17 (rear)
New anodized rims front/rear
Black frame
Metrakit Wave brake discs front/rear
New brake pads front/rear
13t sprocket front dim 428
48t sprocket rear dim 428
Iris GSX 428 chain
Painted calipers

Styling/other:
KTM headlight
KTM SM front fender
White coat plastic
Better throttle handle
JAX Metal grips
New, shorter side indicators
Renthal enduro/FMX handlebars
Polisport fork guards
Derbi DRD mirror left side, remove right side mirror
Clean up in the wiring
New fuel- and oil lines
TNT rear light and plate holder
Red engine cover
Red clutcharm
New oil pump cover
Graphics
Vapor speedometer

That's about it I believe.

Then some pics and text:

This is what it looked like when I got it:

https://i22.tinypic.com/v5bzbs.jpg

A mate of mine sits on it when we tried starting it up the street. Didn't work. And yes, crisps is a vital part of starting up a bike for the first time.
https://i21.tinypic.com/io1a1v.jpg

Then I chuncked it together to try to start it:
https://i21.tinypic.com/2ynh5hk.jpg

https://i22.tinypic.com/2rggiyw.jpg

https://i20.tinypic.com/16bndav.jpg

It ran for 3-4 days when I first figured out the problem, but then it stopped working, which made me pissed which again led me to do this:
https://i9.tinypic.com/6qduu06.jpg

Hebo exhaust:
https://i3.tinypic.com/7w7lf6u.jpg

Sanding the plastics

Even MOAAAAAAAAR:
https://i8.tinypic.com/6stxnib.jpg

https://i11.tinypic.com/6qdw1fa.jpg

Then, while I waited for the lamp and fender I did some more disassembly:
https://i1.tinypic.com/730mfxf.jpg

https://i14.tinypic.com/85dk0ef.jpg

https://i17.tinypic.com/86q9bfr.jpg

Fuel tank wings sanded
https://i11.tinypic.com/6uoq1d3.jpg

Then I sanded the rear fender and fibreglassed it:
https://i16.tinypic.com/6xt0x1z.jpg

https://i17.tinypic.com/6uq0lxu.jpg

https://i3.tinypic.com/86qt0d4.jpg

F*ckloads of sanding paper needed:
https://i5.tinypic.com/8bfew01.jpg

And then the lamp and the fender finally arrived!!
https://i12.tinypic.com/6yzk27t.jpg

Together with a rear wheel mount nut and braking pads:
https://i4.tinypic.com/6u845l3.jpg

https://i9.tinypic.com/6tfxwtl.jpg

Then I painted some plastics:
https://i28.tinypic.com/16b0fq1.jpg

https://i29.tinypic.com/2uny44x.jpg

https://i25.tinypic.com/2znxyrd.jpg

https://i27.tinypic.com/e9zzq1.jpg

https://i31.tinypic.com/24mf5sh.jpg

Grips and fork guards arrived!

And then the project had to be postponed for a month cause of this (Op to the wrist, removed a tumor-thing which made my hand live a life of it's own):

Then I ordered this:

Need to find somewhere to place the Vapor speedo since the barclamps don't fit! Need to move the ignition too since the KTM headlight sits so close to the handlebars that it wont fit there, so I thought I could place it at that position.

Laid the last coat of paint on the rim and mounted it and test mounted some other parts.

Thanks guys! More pics Smile

A mate of mines to the left, same bike as me with some mods, mine to the right. He's got big plans for it too!

Dampers painted, I liked the touch of white at the bottom!

The Hebo exhaust tip mounted, colour matched!
https://i32.tinypic.com/2jcyqo0.jpg

https://i28.tinypic.com/1zeeb2e.jpg

Finally got my arse over to the store and bought a bucket of motivation, they were on sale so I thought I could do it now, and got the right hand side rear panel sanded down after a big phail last time I painted it.
https://i32.tinypic.com/2ewzgg1.jpg

The kick painted, the top of it will be in it's original colour since I'll wear off the paint on it in five minutes anyway.
https://i26.tinypic.com/iozxua.jpg

I mounted one of the dampers last night, but forgot to take pics of it. It's actually impossible to mount them without scratching the paint, I even clashed grease all over the damper and spaced out the damper mount, but I still scratched it! DAMN!

Well, that's it for now, probably the last pics of it in the year of 2008. I've had it since August 2007, so it's time to sell it soon to finance my drivers license! Any comments and feedback would be greatly appreciated even though it's only a 75cc bike.

I mean if it was my project, in my position, I would wake up and think that could be an insured R6 sitting there with my licence.

However, considering it hasn't affected you that much it's a brilliant project. In my opinion it looks great for a 50 and you've tuned it up nicely. You've obviously put a lot of time, effort and money into it and clearly you are happy with it.

I'd love to do something like this if I had £3500 that I wouldn't have stuff more important and necessary to buy. Keep it up and keep us updated. Get some decals on there and paint the front light white.

Nice but remember it's only a 50. Thumbs Up

Projects always work out like this. It will never be worth it in anybodys eyes apart from your own, but still a nice looking bike Thumbs Up You do know its only worth like half of what it cost you, right? It's a shame you didn't wait another year and do it to a 125 Sad Would appeal to so many more people, but as it stands only a 16 year old would want it...

Daz.

Thanks for the comments everyone! I'll try to explain why I did it to a 50cc rather than something with more cubics.

I'm living in Norway, bought the bike when I was 16. I pay for everything myself, don't get any financial support from my parents, so I had to finance my 50cc license which set me back £500. The 125cc license would've cost me £1500 which I at the time couldn't afford, esp. not buying a bike after that since the 125's cost £3000-£10000 here, and then comes the insurance on top of that. Norway is an expensive country, everything costs sh*tloads, which you've probably noticed if you've been here.

On the other side, I really wanted to do something with this to learn the basics of a two stroke engine, and to accomplish to break the personal barrier of having taken a motorized vehicle to fragments and then put it back together. I really don't care about the money I've put in the project as I look upon it as an investment, at least I get back about £2k of them. And it's a lot better than having used them on burgers, candy and food at school, which I hadn't had any of them back.

A lot of people can't believe why I didn't do it to a car instead, as I would have use of a car when I'm now turning 18 in March. But since I've got a Skyline along with my brother, I can work on the R32 alongside of the Derbi.

To some other questions about the bike:

The brake discs are sadly painted, so the red will wear off in the braking areas Sad

I won't dyno it as it would require me to go a long way just to do it, and it costs a lot, and I really need to save money for my drivers license now Wink But it's got an estimated speed of 75mph tops with this setup fine tuned.

And last but not least I'm repeating that I know I'm going to lose a lot of money when I sell it, but I look upon it as an investment and a great learning experience, so it's definately worth it for me Smile

The idea is there. But why did you cut so many corners.

I mean, you were competent to fit a big bore kit. Yet you took the easy way out when it came to doing your forks? Why didnt you just take the feet off (The white bits), they are held on by 1 bolt.

And you could of easily pulled the stantions out of the fork legs without too much greif. Then you could of got them powder coated or similar.

Same with the plastics, If you were willing to go to £3500 on mods, Surely you could of picked up some after market, White plastics? That white paint will flake off in not time.

And lastly, £3500. And you fitted an Airsal Cylinder kit? Shocked

Thats like buying a Lamborghini and fitting Budget tyres!

If your happy with it, that's all that matters. It does look cool.

I personally think you have good taste in colours and that, and you look to be a good painter.

He could always build a new version of the late spikeR's CR500 derbi senda. I was thinking that soon as someone mentioned engines.

Mind you no need to go as high as 500, could just go to 125 or 250 for less effort (and obviousness).

Though the 500 was a massive project, there is a guide somewhere he wrote on how he did it. Truely legendary project that was.

R.I.P spike.

Btw looks alright, i like some of your mod choices in there but get on with getting decals sorted, it looks a bit naff in just white as if it was crashed and you got fibreglass replacements. I like the anodized red colour though, and normally i had anodized colour.

Personally id have thrown the 3.5K into a car every time! That 200SX could have been one mean mofo with that much cash put into it! Shame you sold it, but the R32 isn't bad i suppose, slightly challenged in the looks department, but then you get the smooth sound of a straight 6 with a sprinkling of HKS dump valve squeal thrown in! Laughing

The Bike looks good and i hope your happy with it too! Understand that you are limited costs wise into a small capacity bike, but i do think you could have got the look you have acheived with your bike for alot less than 3.5k too. If it were mine then after all that work, i wouldn't sell it as you will have waved goodbye to at least 2.5k. The sensible thing to do now would be to get yourself an nice 125-200cc liquid cooled lump and swap in a bigger motor, so that it keeps you happy. A DTR, KMX, MTX, CRM lump etc would probably do the trick, and that trick chassis is easily up for 25-30bhp!

I wish i had a big garage and 3.5K right now myself, as i have just seen a cheap but original Rover 220Gti that i want to play with!

I can't remember the name of the helmet right now, but it's a No Fear one - bought it at www.actionsports.no. The rear tyre is a Kingstire 140/70-17. The radiator was painted with heat paint i found at a local shop Smile

It has three, one in the front of the frame, one in the bottom and one in the swinging arm mount Wink I've seen people who've fitted it in a AM6 bike before, so it should be possible with some welding.

Not going to do anything more to the bike now, and it's put up for sale. The decals would set me back about €450 which I don't have right now...

I'm very happy with it! I knew what I was going into when I bought it, so I've seen the costs getting high for a long time. The Skyline has got a €5000 sponsor deal now, so lots of the new mods are financed Wink

---

The bike is now put up for sale, but it seems it's the wrong season, since I've just had 5 e-mails on it to present, after the huge interest and the tons of people who wanted to give shitloads when I was building it.

And you guys don't seem to be aware of the costs of things here in Norway. Bikes over 125cc cost above €10000 here, and insurance will set you back £2000 a year. The license on a bigger bike will set you back at least the same - that's why I won't do that Wink

Don't be too hard on the guy for spending £3.5K on the bike, as i have just seen bike tonight that cost £28k to build. The clue to what it is and what is based on is the 93 GP500 champ's signature on the tank.
