What size bolts please? BMW K1200S

The ones which hold the front disc to the wheel please? And will I be OK using stainless? BMW K1200S.

Ideally you should use official disc bolts - these are actually designed to 'stretch' slightly when done up I believe. They often have a specific shoulder design too.

It has been a while since have worked on Any K1200 models, can't remeber the bolt size, But you will have to watch if you put stainless ones in, i can't quite remember about the K1200 range but some bolts and other parts are made of a metal that is sacrificial, which will start to corrode before wheels which are made of magnesium alloy

Found this little bit on the net giving a brief explanation.

Do you mean Bolt Grade?
This refers to a Rockwell scale or SAE/ISO/API and other specifications.
All bolts are designed to stretch as the stretch is a functional part of the fastener that keeps things together.

The grade determines exactly how much stretch a bolt can withstand before it fails or loses its elastic properties.
Stretched beyond it's elastic limit by component loading or over torquing during assembly and the bolt will not retain the parts with sufficient force. Possible work it's self slack.

This is why it is important to use a torque wrench to tighten critical items.

To get back on topic. I would not fuck about with brake components unless I was certain the parts I was using were compatible with OEM spec.
Some OEM recommend not re-using certain bolts and to fit new.
This is possibly due to a locking compound pre applied to the bolts. I have re-used this type of bolt and not had any come-back.
You must ensure the threads are spotlessly clean and apply a good thread locking compound though.

Hi

Some bolts are meant to be single use stretch bolts, which do not stretch the same way when reused (and serious bolts like this tend to be done to a specific lowish torque and then tightened through a certain further angle.

For brakes I would stick to OE bolts, or equivalent ones designed for that use.

Thanks guys for the further answers. I will stick with OE bolts, I just want to change them as they have corroded and look a bit tatty, so much for BMW build quality......
