Thermal Socks

Hi everyone.

I'm after some THIN thermal socks, no thicker than your average pair of sports socks (as my boots are a tight fit).

They must be warm and have good wicking properties (my feet sweat a lot, and then retain the cold).

What socks do you all wear? I was after some personal opinions on suitable socks for me.

Pick up a pair of silk socks from a camping shop - toastie warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

I wear Dainese touring socks, do the job nicely. I also use socks that I used for skiing, well worth a look at a ski/outdoor shop.

I wear Falke M01 socks from Hein Gericke, they're not strictly thermal and that's a good thing because whatever technology they employ they keep you cool in summer and warm in winter.

They're good for a 40 minute ride at motorway speeds in this weather.

Impregnated with silver as an anti-bacterial agent, and padded heel and toe, and upper left foot for gear lever.

At the risk of stating I told you so.

You will gain nought from Thin Thermal wear.
The only way to control heat loss is by trapping air. Air flow over a body is what determines how heat is transferred.
So you need layers that trap air.
And you can consider the radiated heat loss to by wrapping your feet in tin foil.

Then you have to deal with the increased heat loss through conduction through moisture.

Buy boots with a bit of room for socks.

The same rules for wellies apply.

Heated gear is a good option.

I use one of those waistcoats for weaklings form Gialia to keep me toastie.

Aldi/Lidl - Cheap, strange material but i never had cold feet...

At the risk of something, presumbaly you guys need to get yourself some proper boots, My goretex boots and warm even with my girlfriends stupid ankle socks on... (if there is no washing done...)
