Hi,
Got my own PS3 the other day(have been using brothers) and have been trying to connect wirelessly(brothers is wired). It works sometimes but often i can only get internet browser to work and not able to sign into PSN. Really annoying. The router is pretty far away from my own room though and sometimes the signal is not so good, this is probably why isn't it?

cheers

Most prob, i kept having a fluctuating signal on xbox live when the wireless router was only 15 ft away, ended up going back to wired.

The wireless signal can also be getting interference from other electrical appliances in the home

Yeah, exactly same problem I had with wireless and in the end went to a wired connection.

Since my router is a couple of rooms away from my living room I went to PC world and bought a couple of those network adaptors that go into your plug sockets and wired it through them. Actually downloads slightly faster than my PC now and never have any disconnection problems.

The ones I got from PC World was the Advent Starter Kit 85 Mbps Powerline twin pack. £40 if you reserve it online or get it delivered, £63 off the shelf.

You just plug one in near your PS3 and one in near your router and then connect the router and the PS3 to the plugs using an ethernet cable. Easy as that.

Oh yeah, and it is just as fast as a wired connection - because that's basically what it is.

My mate tried that with a netgear, but it just suddenly died and the support is in yankee land Evil or Very Mad

We currently resort to moving the PS3 periodically to different positions, using anything available, to get high signal.

I keep telling him to wire it, but his mum has (basically) got OCD, and the chance of a wire going unpunished from upstairs to down is nil.

Now I had a few problems with my PS3 this weekend. I was finding internet was fine, but games kept crashing out as soon as I started playing them online.

It turned out my PS3 was connected using NAT3 instead of NAT2.

To sort this out I had to configure my PS3 to have a static IP and then config the router to put that IP in a DMZ, remove the address from DHCP so my PC doesn't steal it, and then allow direct port transfer for the following

TCP: ports 80, 443, 5223
UDP: ports 3478, 3479, 3658

After all this I now get NAT2 and all my network problems have been sorted!
