Bought a DR-Z not even a month ago from RS motorcyccles in todmorden. 15th of December.

Insured it etc etc went out on it an it was fine for a week then it wouldn't pick up right. So took it down to a local bike mechanic and it turns out the big end has gone including piston,rings,bearings etc etc.

went across to RS today to tell them about it and they didn't want to know. Just said oh there is no warrenty on any bike. to which we replied well we bought it in good faith that everything was running sound and it turns out its fecked. An he just said not my problem.

£450 repair bill we knew we wouldn't get the whole amount but even a little bit towards it would have been nice. Especially from a biker run firm.

so anyone who is thinking of going be VERY VERY carefull. They are nice to ya when your thinking of buying it but don't want to know as soon as you have bought it.

I suggest you check out the sale of goods act. As a dealer they have a responsibility to ensure goods are fit for purpose, they can't just ignore it.

Is it a new bike or second hand? Even if second hand it must have a warranty of some kind. Traders can not sell items sold as seen.

Is the bike an insurance write off as iirc that is what they sell there?

Not sure if the law is different for these.

I believe if they sell a bike on finance or whatever then they must provide a warranty. But if it is sold as a salvage, insurance write off or classed as spares or repairs then they don't.

Did you sign anything or did you just chuck loads of money at them and steal the keys?

thats what he said all bikes are sold as salvage its not our problem if the engine is knack'd as you bought it as salvage.

which btw i was not told about when it was bought. but he said we don't need to tell you its your duty to ask us. if you don't ask then its pretty much tough tit.

Friend got his bike from their and it has been apart of the typical Aprilia problems, brother now has it.

But yeah on all their adverts it is We buy/sell crash damaged bikes.

Check your receipt wouldn't surprise me if it has something like, "sold as seen for spares and repairs." How places like that normally cover themselves.

Give you £300 for it, or swap for the NTV650 a running working bike,

Rebuilding a DRZ400 should give me the practice I need to fix any engine trouble I encounter on my big trip.

my first bike (nsr125) was from a bike breakers, had no damage and wasn't stolen but it still stated on the recipt sold as seen/spares.
