Hey,

Has anybody got any experience with these bikes? I've got a friend that wants to get rid of his because he's got no room in his garage and he said he'd sell it too me for £150. Granted it needs a bit of work on it but does anybody know of any tell tale signs that the bike is on its way out?

Its a 1985 B reg model. 55W frame & engine. 23000 miles on the clock!

Many Thanks.

Yazta

The bike people buy that want to ride around the world, even that old. If you don't want it, try offering it to Dave Lambeth who does them up for a living.

Apparently the earlier ones have a bigger tank, not sure about this though.

Bugger, Itchy got in first.
I'd take it off your hands this minute.
Love them.
Mwah.
Specially at that price.

Mine (which got stolen within two weeks of me having it, boo hoo) had only one irritating thing: when you put the indicators on, it bleeped, like a reversing truck, most annoying. Other than that: blinding fun.

If you're into dicking about on Salisbury Plain (I was just flicking through your other posts so far) ... the XT600 would probably be a good bike to play with.

Not that I could, I'd just fall off Rolling Eyes I love them for riding on tarmac, mine was good on London streets, not as big as the Super Tenere (a beast) but slightly more buzzy cos its lighter (although not as light as a 125, obviously). The first week I had mine, before it got nicked, I took it across to Flanders, dead straight roads for miles, it certainly went vroom.

And it used to literally JUMP over the Bow Flyover Laughing
Loved that bike.
Ah, love all trail bikes Rolling Eyes

The XT is way heavier than you'd ideally want for most off-roading... might as well have a SV650 or something Smile. However that doesn't mean the SV650 wouldn't be fun either Razz and of course there's lots of 'easier' bits on the plain.

Oh and falling off is what you're supposed to do... so you'd be great at it Wink... if you're not falling off, you're not trying hard enough Very Happy.

So true... I was up on the plains the other day on my Honda Baja 500... Couple of cliff drops later and a few "FU**" of the edge of the seven sisters and i was laughing. Got to love living right next to the plains.

Anybody else fancy going for a ride sometime? I'm going to hopefully have this XT up and running, with full MOT and such by the start of march.

I was mainly looking for what people thought of them... whether there are any tell tale signs of them being on the way out... ?

Not if you do it in mud... that's where you're going wrong, probably!

And sorry, no ideas on specifics on the XT.
