hello all am new to the forum and was looking to know if us cud all help me am currently lookin at a rgv125 does any one no wat sort of money would they go for or any thing to look out for ? its a 1992 but he hasnt said much about the miles or any thing. Anything would help me at the mo cheers

there is no such thing as an RGV125.

There is however, an RG125, but they have issues. You still see Honda 125's of that age around, but you rarely see Suzukis. There is a reason for that. The RG125 has a weak powervalve design which means that the powervalve assembly can fall inside the cylinder causing a catastrophic failure. Powervalve assemblies go for as much as £150 (They are the same as the RGV250 powervalve).

Check to see if the engine has ever had a rebuild, and even if it has I would really check it carefully. Even if it has had a recent rebuild that the seller can prove, I'd still be aware of the grenade like nature of the RG125. Buy at your peril. But, when they do work, they go like the clappers and the look gorgeous.

Personally if I were you, I'd be looking at a Honda NS125R, or an early NSR125R. They rarely blow up and are much cheaper to rebuild. And they are more common, and so easier to find parts for and easier to find in the first place.

I've not heard of an RGV 125. Is it an import? If so I'm not certain it would fall into the 125 learner-restrictions (eg not restricted to 14.6bhp).

With not a lot of info your best bet is to chase up as much as you can from the owner. Mileage (which may be in kilometres if it's an import, possible MOT failure if MPH isn't shown on the speedo) service history and previous MOTs are good indications of how well the machine has been previously looked after.

When you go to view the bike check the frame and forks are straight. See how worn the tyres, chain and sprockets are (this will enable you to budget how much you will have to spend on the bike straight away). Just give it a general look over, and if you don't know what something does, ask the seller and if his/her intentions are good they should have no problem telling you. Anything wrong with the bike can be turned into a good thing as you can say "hang on, this will need doing so I'll give you x-amount less as I'll have to pay to get that done when I get it".

Also make sure you HPI check the bike before you buy. This will tell you if the bike has outstanding finance on it or is a write-off etc. If you're unsure, take a friend with you to view it, and don't make an offer unless you're happy with the bike.

yes its an inport went and seen it last nite not worth it he is lookin 600 for it has 11k on the clock no mot the fella just lookin it away he says its not the 12bhp uk one but it can go lol just looking a bike to do me untill i get my test any one no any in n.ireland lol

Hi

The RG125 was often called the RGV125 (as it was styled to look like an RGV250).

Meant to go OK, do suffer the same power valve issues as the RGV250 as MarKay says. Steel frame (from memory). Doddle to derestrict.
