Don't have much contact with them now, but when I first got a bike they seemed to be in denial over me having one.

My dad was a biker up until a few years ago, he had a Triumph Daytona 1200 (only 4-cyl bike triumph did, using kawasaki engine)

he got run down by a tram in Holland when he was 17 but continued to ride.

My grandad rode bikes.

My grandad's fine although warned me, my parents on the other hand aren't at all pleased but there's nothing they can do, they're just worried, I can understand.

My parents stopped me from getting a field bike even though I kept pestering them from when I was 11. My dad even said you can have one when your 13 if you still want one... It never happened.

When I was 15 I started up my own business to save up the money for a scooter. After that my parents had no choice.

My mum wasn't too happy ... hence I have waited this long ... althought both my father and brother are bikers! But apparently it is different because they are men! Rolling Eyes

It seems that parents get more protective over the girls in the family riding... Can't understand that myself.

Don't understand it neither! When I was younger in Italy my brother was allowed to go out on his bike from the age of 14 (legal age for 50cc) till very late whilst if I wanted to go pillion I always had to say it before, even if offered a ride ar 2am!! And I would get 20000 questioned about the rider!!!

Truly unfair!

Well making up for it now getting my own licence ... and eventually a bike!

Dad seemed quite excited (though I'm sure if he reads this he will tell a totally different story) that he had another automotive vehicle to tat with... Mum on the other hand, I'm not too sure about. After asking me exactly whose bike it was, she didn't talk to me for a while.

Then both went safety mad... leathers, helmet, training, safe, don't die etc etc.

Now I think they both still worry, but Mum secretly thinks it is very cool... I know she does - Dad does too - don't you!?

Riding in the rain ... Confused ... not sure about that! Done a few lessons in it and don't mind it as long as it is not windy. Guess it is the excitement of riding as it is still a fairly new experience.

certainly missing the long and warm summers, sprngs and autumns! Crying or Very sad

When I was 16 my mum and dad agreed that me having a road bike would be a good idea, it meant that they wouldn't have to ferry me around (buses are terrible here) and I had always had an interest in bikes anyway. My mum had a C90 when she was younger so they were never against the idea of bikes.
Since I have finished uni and got back into bikes it has rekindled my mums interest in 2 wheels and she bought herself a scooter and has now moved onto a GPZ500 which she loves, my dad still loves his cars and the only time he gets on 2 wheels is when they play about on scooters while on holidays (he still makes my mum go pillion).

Funnily enough my parents bought me one of those a couple of years ago for christmas, unfortunately only a scale model (maisto??). They thought it was actually the bike I had bought , a YZF750R. Nevermind, they were close. Laughing

when I suggested the idea they didn't take me seriously until I booked myself in for some lessons! I think my dad is happy if it's what I want to do, whereas my mum would really rather I didn't have a bike. She didn't much like the NSR125, imagine what she thought when the zx6r rolled out of the van!!

I was given some grief when i upgraded my VFR400 to the ZX6.. After I burnt some guy off in an MR2 turbo down a motorway slip, and up the motorway.... whilst failing to spot my dad sitting about 3 cars back... Embarassed

He did say it sounded cool tho Twisted Evil

Well It was my parents who took me along to buy my first (and only Razz)moped, so they can't of been that arsed, although I think they fell for the salesmans bulshit that i'll never want a motorbike i'll have teh "Scooter-bug"! Mr. Green

I have an arguement every day at least 5 times about my next move. I tend to get childish and throw threats back at them which they shut up to. I think their biggest problem is the fact they lent me money for a car and I'm selling it to buy a bike Smile

Hehe, my parents are bothered about me riding. But don't show it. I come and go as i please, eat all the food and make lots of noise... hardly see them much anyway and we live in the same house. Not bad living to be honest.

No complaints except when i over took a few of my neighbours on the twisties and they complained to my dad. Fucking old bag car drivers. They don't realise you can see right over the hedges etc.

Hi

My dad didn't mind at all (and after me riding a bike for around 15 years he has just gone and bought himself a bike again). My mother did not appreciate it. When I told her it is the only time in my life I have every seen anyone chew air as she kept starting to try and say something, and failing.

Not true. They made the Trophy 1200, Daytona 1000 and Daytona 1200, and more recently the TT600 and the Dayton 600. None of these use Kawasaki engines.

All the best

My parents did not seem to mind due to my older brother riding for over a year, but the first time out on a main road on my Honda SS50....... apart from being very nervous..... i had pulled into a lay by after watching this car approach me from behind at speed, the car in front of me had stopped to turn right, and the speeding car braked to late, crossed the middle line into a on-coming car......it took me 30 mins to get the courage up to move on

Well, I think I had £1000 to put towards an NSR125, Dad offered to match it if I bought a car, I declined and they moaned for weeks!
Now I have a GSXR 750, my little brother bought my NSR and they think it's great!?!

Every Sunday all I hear is "where" are you going today" etc.

The funny thing is they lecture my brother, "listen to your brother", I hope you ride as good as your brother" blah, blah... (even though I'm shit) Very Happy

They used to hate them! Now they think it's cool! Dad comes home from work saying stuff like "my mates ZXR is amazing" and stuff!!! They really do show an interest.

Goes to show though, doesn'it! Thumbs Up

my dad Encouraged me to get a bike becasue he had loads of vespas and superdreams when he was my age and his father was big into Nortons, so as soon as l was 16 he lent me the money and l got my self a NRG and stuck a performance pipe on it and at 17 got my NSR and ZZR 250, but he was wanting me to get into classic area of biking like he did so he lends me his old BSA C12 to follow his BSA A65 Spitfire now and again to newlands conner.

My mums picked all my bikes for me and even got me started with a stonking TS 50 (hasn't paid for all of them though Sad ) Between minimoto and trail riding I don't even get hassle for crashing any more. Laughing
Dads always had bikes been going on them since I was a sprog so it was inevitable I'd end up with one. Mr. Green

My mum always said she'd disown me if I ever got a bike.

I got a bike - she wasn't too chuffed about it but she still talked to me.

I've sold it, she is relieved.

Until today, when I got a new job and announced my masterplan to do Direct Access and get a CBR600 for the summer. Thumbs Up Very Happy
