Hi
ATF is specified for the gearbox in some 2 stroke engines. I have no info on the CPI, but might be tempted to double check with the importers, but don't find it that unlikely.
As to using diesel oil in petrol car, yes people do it. Diesel oils tend to have higher levels of detergent and so are sometimes used for a while to flush through petrol engines.
If you use the wrong oil then yes you could do damage. And that applies just as much if you go and use gearbox oil in a box designed for AFT. Even using gearbox oil of the right viscosity but the wrong type in a car can cause major problems (eg, using a GL5 gearbox oil on a gearbox will brass synchro rings will trash the synchromesh, they need the older GL1 non EP oils).
All the best

Perhaps try contacting CPI Importers and ask them......
At least then if it is the guy at the shop thats wrong they can sort it out and get your engine fixed.... ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

| Quote: | Oh right, you do know best. |
i know a brand new gearbox shouldnt be jumping out of gear into neutral 4 times in one gear and for the mechanic to seem to think its okay.
| Quote: | right up to the point where you put the wrong grade of oil despite being told the right stuff is in there. |
when the head mechanic told me to change the oil to the proper motorcycle gearbox oil i sed in the first place because he also didnt believe that it should be running on atf because it was too thin and would foam when its too hot as it was when i drained it.
| Quote: | if my mechanics dont use the books supplied I want a fucking good reason why not, they cant possibly know everything |
the reason is that the gearbox oil it told them to run is not right, its funny how the bike was jumping out of gear all the time into neutral i put castrol mtx 2 stroke gearbox oil in today and its running and shiffting perfect see if the supplied books explain that then eh and i work in a garage mate and do you think i need a great big manual of every single car to diagnose a problem when it comes in
| Quote: | get off your high horse and do everything yourself if you are ot happy with the garage mechanics. |
i would rather do it myself but they need to do the relevent service intervals for warranty purposes, atleast the stuff i take off when i do work on cars, bikes and anyway anything i work on goes back on the same as it was before i touched it, not hanging off with two bolts half way in and two missing thats good workmanship for ya int it ____________________ CR 125 (OFFROADER) - DEP PIPE ETC

Deal with it, if you crash because the gear box blows up - theyre liable.
If the gearbox blows up and you dont crash and die horribly - you get a new bike.
And the gearbox can jump for alot of other reasons too.
