Its my 20th soon, and if we dig our self out of our current financial slump a PS3 will be on the cards.

As I was telling my friends (who insist i get an xbox 360) i don't just intend on getting it just to play games, as I'm not really a gamer, just like a play every so often. It will be used for gaming, dvd's, watching/recording freeview (playtv with 320gb/500gb hdd) and going on the interent (wireless keyboard/mouse).

Now for all this I have a budget of about £400. I was just wondering what other alternatives i have to this set up. As said previously i'm not too bothered about the gaming, its just a plus point. How much of a media PC could i get for this kind of money? Or are there any problems with what i intend to do?

Nick

You can get a decent media pc for £400 - it will be capable of some gaming just not the newer titles that require more advanced hardware

For £400 you could build your own computer and have some pretty impressive specs.

For example, I spent about £500 a few months ago and built the following system;

2.4Ghz Quad Core Processor (Q6600)
3Gig RAM
ATI PowerColor HD4870
500G Hard Drive

Obviously the price of this sort of setup would vary depending on the quality of the RAM you buy, the motherboard, whether you go for an AMD or Intel processor, etc. But you should easily be able to build a comparable system for £400... and the great thing about PC's is that you can just upgrade them bit by bit as you have the funds.

If you're new to building PC's, check this website out;

Very well explained - you do need a little bit of common sense and some degree of computer knowledge does help but in all honesty it's very easy.

HTH Thumbs Up

Don't forget to add the £80 odd for a blue-ray player in the PC, and £20 for your leads.
