Well, im off to amsterdam for the weekend with a couple of mates, and the parents (who are partial to the odd joint) just wondering what are the best bars to go into?
Im by no means a "pot head" dont really smoke it as often as i did in my younger days, but im just after advice really.

I hear some are closing down? ill be going in daylight hours, if this has any effect?

cheers, Steve.

"The Excalibur Bar" and "The Other Place" in the Red Light District are both good places and owned by the Amsterdam Hells Angels so do not prat about.

I wandered into the Excalibur last time i was over (had one of those 'must have a sit down and a drink of orange juice before i pass out' moments) - i actually thought it was a gay 'bear' bar due to the amount of burly men sporting moustaches.

Laughing

I've not been over there since the smoking ban came in, anyone know if it has had much affect on the area?

Let them know that you are going to visit, walking in with colours flying tends to cause a reaction. I was there a few years back and half a dozen of the Swedish Angels walked in un-announced, there were phone calls and shortly after a lot of Dutch Angels with shot guns appeared.

He was a good boy actually just showing me the place. Mum was in the house we rented, we dont tell her anything of special cakes Shocked its rather unsettling when your dad asks you do you want something in the sex shop. Just for the note I was like 22 at the time. And was offered a job there Embarassed Which I declined of course. Laughing

The best places for green are De Dampkring in the Spui area and The Grey Area west of Dam square, both not the best chillout areas but definately the places to go... Thumbs Up

Rent a bicycle and cycle around mashed up, watch out for the trams Thumbs Up

Sorry, can't stand the Bulldog - it represents everything to me that is wrong about Brits abroard.
It's the Amsterdam equivalent of a 18-30 club holiday fortnight in Magaluf 'aah don't want none of that forrun muck' etc.

I'd like to know that too, update when you get back!

When I went there, just under a year ago, we did go into the Grasshopper, but then walked straight out, too commercial and expensive.

The best places, IMO, are outside of the RLD, just little coffee shops full of locals and a relaxed atmosphere. Went in about 6 places, two oustide the RLD and the rest in. Ultimately they were all pretty good - since you could get mashed in them, and play pool with some of the worst cues in the world. I don't like a lot of bustle when I'm smoking, so almost the quieter the better IMO.

I've been since the ban.

No smoking of tobacco inside - it's fine outside. You can roll inside with tobacco and then smoke it outside.

Some places have a separate tobacco smoking area inside but it's rare.

Just hope for good weather so you can sit outside. As mentioned, get away from the RLD for some better places, my favourite being De Dampkring.

6 of us are going in October so I'm keen on this topic.
It's been 24 years since I was there.
When the RLD was huge.

Do they still have hookers there?

BCF trip to the dam is necessary. Just one with a decent crew, not the pedbois. And with Ste, because it's easier than trying to read a map when stoned.

After the minimoto thing a few of us were at the Hippy's place and me and Ste began trying to sort something out a while before the minimoto event but if it happens, I'll be up for it....assuming I'm not classed as one of the 'ped bois' Laughing
