what would you guys say are the best 125 2strokes for the road because i am sellin my offroader soon and i am goin to buy a 125 2 stroke with the money for when im 17, im thinkin either rs125, rm125 ( i have seen a few road legals ones), nsr 125 if theres any good ones still around. also do these bikes really hit 100 - 120 mph, any other suggests would help, im not bothered wether its a superbike replica like the rs, a offroader like the rm or a supermoto (starting to like them more everytime i see one)

If you want fastest available, a KTM125EXC with supermoto wheels will probably do it. However even if you restrict it to 33hp, it still won't be '33hp legal' never mind learner legal; as you'd need even less power for the power/weight ratio.
More reasonably, the Aprilia RS125 is a good bet for speed on the road.
Will get to a 'real' 100mph or so if it's in good nick. 120mph is the realm of pub park talk and inaccurate speedos. NSR125 is a decent 'all round' bike that most find more comfortable for day to day use.

older the RS the more it will of been beaten by 17 year olds.

My advice would be go for the CBR125 as it's less maintenance which you won't be use to and 2 stroke maintenance is a lot more expensive.

But if you go for an RS looks for proof of rebuilds, well looked after etc . . . but i'd say go for the CBR125

2 stroke maintenance for road bikes like the RS and definitely NSR isn't more expensive than a 4 stroke. Not sure if the CBR uses tappets, but it's probably cheaper on the 2 stroke if it doesn't.
While 2 strokes can need a little more major work more often, that work is very simple to do compared to a 4 stroke.

For a sports bike Honda NSR125, Aprilia RS125, Cagiva Mito in ascending value of looks/performance but in descending value of reliability and cost to repair.

Ah the RG, for looks and power it would have to be a post '92 model (RG125F), and they were only made until '96 I think, and you might have problems finding one with an original engine that still works, another alternate would be the TZR125, but again finding one still working in decent condition might be a problem.

i would love to have either of them but i dont think i will be going near anything under a 2002 maybe 2000, i have been looking at a few rs's on ebay and i like them alot, i have rode one about 2 month ago and really liked it which when i sat on the bike i thought i wouldnt, what sort of miles should i be lookin for on bikes from 02-06, also are the nsr's as quick as the rs, keep the suggestions cumin, thanks lads

RS has a slightly higher top speed and a bit better handling on paper, at the expense of riding position for general use.
In real life, the faster one is the one with the faster rider on.

As for your change of direction, afraid I don't know much, but here's a pic Smile...

Restricted and derestricted the RS and NSR will be about the same power wise, the Mito will give you more derestricted. The RS is likely to need a top end rebuild more often than the NSR.

When buying the mileage is not so important as the care it has received. The engines need rebuilding much less frequently if they have been run on quality oil and warmed up before riding. Both engines will normally need a top end rebuild around every 10,000 miles (16,000 km), although you maybe able to get 20,000 miles out of a well cared for NSR, so a question to ask will be when it last had a rebuild, and if it is due one make sure it is reflected in the price.

A common fault on the RS125 is that the speedo cable/drive fails, and this can mean that the mileage shown on a used RS125 can be less than what it has really done, so ask the owner if it has suffered from this common fault.

i am starting to fall in love with the rs's since i've been looking on ebay, seen a mint white one and was very tempted to bid with the credit card lol but i stopped myself, another thing i would like to know is why do some adverts claim 14 bhp and other claim 33bhp is this something to do with the full power rs 125s because one advert says the lad had fitted a different powervalve and blade etc to make it full power, so what is real bhp on these things then

The lower number would indicate it was restricted, the higher number that it was derestricted.

33bhp is the limit for two years after you pass your test, unless you are over 21 and do a direct access test, so people tend to say the NSR/RS give you 33bhp.

I had a 01 RS125 about 5 years ago, I can say that this is the bike which got me addicted to two wheels! Don’t bother with the restricted version either, mine originally came as the restricted version but I took it to my local garage to get it de-restricted, unfortunately they could not do it their but they took it to the local Aprilia dealer who just plugged it into a machine and it was done FULL POWER (all 30 odd bhp!). After that I never looked back and it felt like a different bike!

Edit: My garage first reconnected the power valves and it was full power but it would only rev to 9,000 rpm, so I took it back and that’s when they had to go to the local Aprilia man and plug it.
