Right, I'm really starting to go out of my head here.
Job searching takes maybe an hour a day. I have no money to get out, the bikes running a bit crap and I've no money to sort it out and now...
The snookers ended
Anything else you guys can think to fill the days besides suicidal ideation?
Been unemployed since fireworks night
I'm at that wonderful stage where I want to give up, but theres physically no where to give up to (ie quitting, leaving etc). So I'm past quitting... doing the same thing ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...
From September 2014 to January/February 2015 I will not be using any English, nor reading any. As such, I won't be on here. PM at will, but I won't be checking/posting unless in emergencies. Certainly not for the first couple of months. Please berate me savagely if I break that rule... |

What line of work are you in?
Have you tried the temp agencies?
Not exactly the right climate is it. Bugger
I was unemployed for about 3 months a few years back and that drove me nuts. I got quite down.
There is only so much cleaning you can do. I could have shopped, but was completely broke, so know what you mean there.
One thing I did do was put my cv all over the net, that took a fair chunk of time each day. I also did cross stitch Do you enjoy exercise or anything? That can be quite addictive I hear from people
I walked my dog a lot. Maybe set up a dog walking business! Hoorah!! Cash and something to do
Good luck with the job hunting. Hope you find something soon

What jobs are you looking for?
Whle it's not the most well paid job bar jobs always have a high turnover and can be fun to work in
I'm leaving my current place, went into Wycombe earlier and already have an interview at 3 different places...
Like I said. It's not the bets hours/money but it's better than nothing. Almost like a paid night out without the drinking (and drugs ) ____________________ '99 Hornet 600 , VFR 400 NC30 '92 , Kasawamasaki GT 550 , '98 Hornet 600

Happy days indeed. If you are bored due to unemployment then spend 4 hours a day looking for a job instead of an hour. |
Unfortunately I'm overqualified and dick experience. Limits my options massively.
I have every job search engine set up, I'm signed up to about 10 agencies, which I badger regularly. Oh and every search engine sends me multiple emails a day.
Believe me. It don't take long.
Pray tell what you are doing in addition to that to kill the extra 3 hours? Agencies just fob you off, so I don't like phoning them more then once a week. And they are usually very short calls
Molotov. I would love bar work, or at leasy I'd be good at it and it would suit my sleeping hours. But I didn't get any experience when younger, and now any work that comes up gets pinched by the uneducated with experience. I've applied for about 10 bar jobs, not heard a peep from any of them.
Tis annoying because like I say, I'd be damn good at it.
Shaggy - Out of that list I had thought of improving my handwriting, and there may be a course somewhere I can take. At the moment computers save me from it, but suffice to say I write everything in capitals if I want others to have a chance of reading it. ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...

Real life aint like BCF, you don't need to list EVERYTHING you can do well or tell em about ALL your qualifications, problem solved.

Like I said go out and look, if your that bored anything will do, even just being out looking will kill some boredom.

Going out looking for work, there are that many unemployed people who don't have the qualifications you do that they can snap the jobs up, you cant afford to sit on the computer and hope they come to you fella, like I mentioned earlier my missus kicked me up the arse by actually going out looking.
She spent hours out walking round and asking and got a job, I spent hours out looking and asking and got a job so it does work, the more time you search the less time you have to be bored and the more chance of finding a job. |

i agree. the best way to find a job is to go door to door. you might get paid crap or cash in hand but atleast it's something to stop the boredom. if it's the money you want then it will be very hard ____________________ Hit the G spot. |

Good grief, the Hobb fan. Welcome back
'guv is actually right, door to door searching is hard work, can be massively soul destroying unless you have an ego of granite (something you purport to have, so no worries there) and is generally shite but we're a fair way off "gissa job" yet I reckon and more importantly than any of the above if you really want to work then there will be something around.

Depends what area you're in. I ran a poll a fortnight or so ago, and half the people who replied seemed to think they were secure
I honestly don't know a single person who is secure long term.
As for my ego, I came out trying to get /a/ job. I've strimmed central reservations, bent wire and worked as a post collection admin bitch. Basically, I've been very unlucky.
What puts me off going door to door is retail is completely saturated, and thats about all I've got. I could always try flogging the dead horse of estate agents too. Did your misses have any prior experience in it?
Oh and by the way, I'm NOT trying to get a good spangly 30k graduate willy waving job. I just need to save up 5k by september. I now do security, boring yeah it will be. But I will get a load of certification out of it, a decent enough wage with overtime readily available and a three year old car to use. With everyone going skint and more thieving taking place its seems a half decent bet at least of being a secure job, geddit secure?
| bonny_ricardo wrote: |

Doesn't have to be retail, why do you need experience in something to ask for a job? You don't. I have had a lot of jobs over the years, a lot of jobs, most have been had just by walking in or ringing through from the yellow pages. Everyone is getting booted out of their houses so why not try removals? Thats a great job and you get all over the country while keeping fit, good tips too.
As per the missus, she had no direct experience in estate agency but she did sell business' for nearly five years, so sales negotiating is her thing but she will be dealing with lettings, so no.
Oh and agencies that deal with labour will often have plenty of need for people on the bins, another good laugh of a job. |

Aye. Its gone from looking certain to a bit of a pipedream now
Theres a great job in the antarctic I'm going for, and asking for a couple of months off has probably blown it for me now.
Guvnor. Not to sound too harsh, but with a degree people are very hesitant to train you to do menial stuff, cos they know you'll fuck off. And rapidly. Unfortunately the 3 years at uni are a bit glaring on previous experience. Either I tell them I did a degree, or leave them to think I've sat on my arse for 4 years unemployed.
And as I mentioned. I recently did an interview for a proper imigrant sweatshop job down in Hampstead heath. An hour away by bike, 2 by train. And theres 7 oclock starts.
Believe me, this aint me being overly picky. I may have another go round door to door, but from my experience I never get anywhere. ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...

Like I said earlier you dont have to tell people you have a degree, its not mandatory, its not a criminal record.
So you could actually do "menial" work. As per the three years at uni....How do you think I get through when asked about history? I have had more jobs than the bleeding jobcentre, I just always put the last one or even make one up, tell a story of self employment for a couple of years before stopping to get back into full time employment, travelling, various temporary jobs for various agencies all over the country, lived in spain etc.
If you really want to get rid of unemployment boredom there are a shed load more ways than you have tried. |
