You have obviously tried more than one insurance company?

Hopefully your not that dense, if thats the lowest quote you have had then you will get screwed, we all have to do it when we're young.

Though having said that it could be because it's quite a fast sportsbike and you're 18 riding on a restricted license.

You could always try getting something a bit slower until your restriction runs out.

I guess the main reason is because it is on the road outside the house.

Changing from the lowest insurance post code, to the highest insurance post and moving from a brick walled garage to street parking, over doubled my insurance with less than 6 months to go on it. Over tripled for a years.

Thumbs Down

Tesco do a good comparison service...I've had best quotes off bikesure so far, excess £450 cheaper than anywhere else!!!

There's a list of phone numbers of insurers in the new bikers section herei think...

you just gotta go down the list and play them all off against each other. I got my first quote on a "big" bike - CB500, down from 800 TPFT to 500 TPFT at 17,

also, if you haven't bought it already, buy one with an alarm/immobiliser, and/or get some thatcham approved security devices.

i paid 1 grand for a new rs 125 for the first time at age 19. however i live in the worse area possible and only have a provisional license :p

so i think a 600 at your age is reasonable. maybe you can get it down by phoning people and saying i am phoning around,. do you price match and what is your best quote?

That was a bit silly really. Perhaps you should have checked you could actually afford the running costs before setting your heart on this particular bike. Surely you must have known that insurance on anything high-performance for a young male rider is going to be a killer?

Probably not the answer you want to hear but get something a bit more sensible for a year or so until you can afford the CBR. Any of the 500 twins would probably cost you a third of that to insure, be cheaper to buy/service/repair and better on fuel.

He has his heart set on one, but he can always buy something else. It'd only be stupid if he had bought it and then tried getting a quote.

Peter, you have your whole life to get your (crappy) dream bike, no need to get it straight away.

hmm, 18, restricted, parked on the road, no alarm... cant see things getting much better with those elements. maybe waiting a bit til you can get those cleared up before getting your dream bike.

how very dare you!

back on topic, it sounds about right for your age, i pay £500 TPFT and im 25 with 2 years NCB and a string of motoring convictions.

if you could wait till your 21 it should drop a fair bit and by then for the same money you should be able to get the newer rr-7 model which is much better with electronic steering damper, USD forks and better midrange.

but as others have said you would probably be better off buying a 500 twin or similar first and get some NCB built up.

When i insured my SP1 (with fitted alarm) i got a qutoe without one and there was no difference in price so for a £300 alarm it wouldn`t worth it

you could also try www.roadsure.co.uk there pretty good

Go for an older (even TPO it makes insurance cheaper) and cheaper bike and get TPFT. A 98 model bike will be just over ten years old, which is apparently one of the milestones for cheaper insurance.

I doubt most people, never mind someone getting it as a first big sports bike will find /that/ much between them as far as speed goes if you're actually trying; the new bike may allow you to go faster a bit more effortlessly, but that's another matter.
