Bearing in mind a lot of bikes are used as toys
So weekends, and sunny weekends at that, so in britain not much use.
A well maintained bike will last as long as a car

You can pick up a bike that is 5 or 6 years old and has only done a few k miles. Doesnt mean that it is better than the one that has got 30k miles on it but has been owned by a commuter who has serviced and replaced parts as and when needed


History is what matters, and a low mileage bike has less history for it to have been abused in, doesnt mean to say it hasnt, just reduces the abuse time scale.

As above...history is all important. I got real lucky with mine - 8 years old, 9500 miles, with service stamps every year showing mileage well before due.

The next owner won't get any service stamps for the time I'll have it, since I object to paying a fortune for an oil change.

As long as the history shows its been looked after, mileage isn't a massive issue.

nope bike engines aren't like 1970s engines , you can ride bikes and the world and then some and the engines won't die, the only issue at 25K is valve clearances , on shimmed valves this is a pain to do but only needs to be done 15-25K , on rocker valves it needs to be done more often.

I hunt for bikes around this mileage as prices drop off, as Dean says many bikers do barely any miles and thus 5000 is an annual average mileage and the 5000 miles INCLUDES people like me and Kitty , I did about 36000 miles last year in total , Kitty did close to 55000 miles last year and thus the 5000 average takes into account people like us.

it will still be fine. its just things like suspension, valve clearances, discs etc usually need doing by then which mean an initial outlay after finding the right bike - something most dont want. ideally you want one thats had these bits done as part of the service history if possible but you can DIY most of it to make it cheaper.

Bollocks! My CG had over 40k on it when it was stolen and was just getting into its stride.

It's not unusual to see ex-courier machines going over 100k if cared for.

my cbr had 35000 on when i bought it backed up with all history and old mo't's. sold it for more than i bought it, as said before most bikes will serve you well if they have been well loked after by previos owners.

Bought my bandit with 27k on the clock and it is completely mechanically sound. Also know of bikes with 80k+ miles which are still running perfectly fine.

Alot of it depends on what kind of bike it is, if it's an RS 125 then steer well clear, but if it's something like a Pan Euro then no worries.

GSXF 750 you wanted wasn't it?

I wouldn't worry about it, the way it has been ridden and looked after is more important IMO.

The bike school's GS500 had 64k on it when I took my test on it, still fine. It's been looked after, to an extent I guess.

Personally I'd rather see miles on a bike in some ways - long journeys as opposed to short, pitting on forks etc.

Just under 34.000 miles on the Zephyr I've just bought, it runs and sounds like a new bike, it's up to yet more reliable than the 7 year old NSR I have aswell, so long as it's been looked after there isn't really an issue with a high milage bike...

Just have a scout round for info on the bike you're looking at for any issues that may come up regards to milage...

my city fly was on 50,000miles when I got it.. quite alot for something thats only a '02. Seems like I'm the one doing the work on it now! Spent about £200 on new bushes, brakes and what not.
