I have an MZ Baghira. It's been off the road for a month or two. It starts up fine on or off the choke. Will idle without problem, but if I rev the engine a little it cuts out Evil or Very Mad

I would guess the bike will trundle about 20-30mph, but other that I think it'll cut out Thumbs Down

Any advice on what I can check Question

Try the basics first , Clean the carb out and replace the spark plug.

As above

Deff sounds like either a fuel or air supply problem. Take the tank off, check the filter, inlets, carbs etc

Could poss be an ignition timing problem, though i dont know how this could happen after only a couple of months off road, plus this wouldn't cause the bike to stall, but its all things to check.

Thanks dudes Thumbs Up Karma

Arrow I put a new air filter on and that didn't help.
Arrow I changed the plug
Arrow Has plenty fuel
Arrow Fuel tap is ON (in case anyone asks)
Arrow Sprayed some carb cleaner..near the carbs...but I don't know enough to know what needs cleaned Embarassed

How would the ignition timing problem happen? What would cause that Question The bike suffered a bit of an accident before it went off the road. basically I had the bike a week and a half and didn't check the rear disc bolts... they must have been finger tight as two worked lose and embedded themself in the swingarm Thumbs Down Swing-arm now fixed, new rear carrier now on the bike, just waiting /hunting for a replacement disc bolt as I had to cut one free Surprised

^^ would this cause engine damage Praying

I'm not an electrical engineer, nor mechanic, but your ignition timing will change depending on your engine speed, your engine speed however, will also depend on air and fuel supply so both are connected?? I'm not too sure. Cant see it been altered by time off road though, or even a drop.

Was the bike dropped or crashed after the disk problem? Maybe you've loosened a few bits in the carbs.

Does seem weird that bike will start on choke or at normal temp, but not if you give it throttle, hmmmm.

hi m8 it sounds like carb to me
if you loosen the small drain screw at the base of the carb and let the fuel run for a minute it may solve your problem as it may be water and gunge in the float bowl try this first. Thumbs Up

although you may need a full strip and clean of the carb hth Thumbs Up

as others have already said it sounds like your carb has got some muck in it. It probably just needs a strip down and bloody good clean

Wotcha.

Sounds like a blocked jet.

I had one block up yesterday - bike would run fine, but as soon as it came off the pilot jet it would cut out. Took the carb off, stripped it down and boiled it in detergent. Seems fine now.

Beard hair for poking up the blocked jet is IMHO the reason why men have beards

I know that everyone says, NEVER stick any wire up a jet to clear it out as it will enlarge it.

However would a nylon strand, say from a toothbrush, or indeed and stiff hair, do any damage to the fine brass hole?

One strand of copper wire, from internal house cabling for example, will do precisely bugger all to the jet, apart from get the crap out that carb cleaner wouldn't touch.

I was going to take the advice above, and strip the carbs and clean out the float bowl and jet... but instead I dropped a good load of redex in the fuel and sprayed the carb with carb cleaner I got from halfords... few minutes later it's revvin all the weay without stalling Thumbs Up

BRILLIANT Exclamation Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
