Why? Why can i get insured on supersport bike which can do 0-60 in around 3.5sec for 450quid at 19 with a claim and some points. But when it comes to the cages even a peougeot 106 with 1.2littre engine i can't find anything lower then 1500 TPO... ?
Do i look in the wrong places ? ____________________ Theory Passed: 23/10/2008 49/74 Bike Test Passed: 05/01/2009 1 minor

More young kids crash cars than crash bikes.
Therefore the insurers pay out more to young drivers than young riders.
It also costs more to fix a car than a bike in the event of a prang. Cars tend to see more use as well. ____________________ My Flickr |

bike is perhaps less likely to cause as much damage as a car?
its £1200 TPFT to insure my £300 car. yet its £300 to insure my £800 bike ____________________ -----------------------

I got my renewal through the other day, it has gone up £95 despite another years NCB and no claims/no anything. Needless to say, I won't be renewing. ____________________ Suzuki GSX-R750K4 ~ Mivv GP |

Well I'm the other way around, bike is more than the car. The busa cost me about £600 and the car costs £250.
I guess it boils down to any old barry being able to get in a car and plough through a crowded markeptplace and crash with four of his chavvy mates in the back. Big bucks.
A girl at work though, on a different note, has just bought a brand new 1.4 seat ibiza and is paying a little over £800 fully comp. Strange ____________________ RS125 > CBR6 > SV650S > ZX636R > GSX1300RZ Hayabusa > 06 RSVR Mille > SV1000S > Street Triple 765 RS |

Probably because there's no such thing as a 1.2 Peugeot 106/Citroen Saxo.
In all honesty, I've always struggled for insurance. I think I paid over a grand to insure a 1.0 Peugeot 106 when I was 17. It's just the way it is. Insurance in this country (even worse in Northern Ireland) is basically a tax on young drivers. How on earth a 75 year old driver who can get insured for about 100 quid a year is less of a risk than an 18 year old is beyond me. I've done plenty of miles and can honestly say that older drivers have been more of an accident risk to me personally.
As driving costs as much as it does in the way of road tax/fuel duty I think insurance should be regulated. ____________________ Current: ZZR1400

I'm other way round. Fully comp with no claims protection in Mondeo is £220.
Fully comp with no claims on bike is £300. Saying that I do have 2 bikes on the policy. ____________________ I've a twin and a 4. |

Cars are more expensive for me... I'm 23, bike insurance is around £500 FC on a 600RR 2007.
Car insurance is around £1200 for an Impreza WRX with Prodrive Kit and a Freelander 2.5 V6 Petrol - both on the same policy full comp.
The Impreza however is my sisters other halves, I've just been driving it a lot as she has nicked my freelander.
I'm considering getting on of those new Fiestas as I dont drive that much, they cost bugger all to insure and run and I'm not that worried about depreciation as I need a fairly new car for work (get paid extra to have a car).
As has been said above, cars tend to break and smash into things in a more spectacular way leaving a bigger mess to clear up, costing much more money.
Also, attitude tends to be different. In a car people feel safer as they are enclosed and tend to take more risks causing more accidents. Bikers tend to have a different attitude to risk which results in less accidents. The issue we have is that when we do have an accident, it tends to hurt more. ____________________ Current Bikes: Honda CBR 600RR - '07, Suzuki GSX1250 FA ST '11

As previously stated, it's all down to statistics and insurance history. For example, you may well pay more insurance for a 1L Nova than you would for a 1.6L Focus. This is because chavs buy and crash Novas, whereas old people and sensible types would buy a focus. Not necessarily the case but if a particular car or bike has a poor insurance record then it will cost more to insure.
That is why a Fireblade is mroe expensive to insure than a Gixxer thou, because the Blade has been around in one form or another since 1992, whereas the Gixxer since 2001.
Cheers
