No power after 8000 rpm...Rs 125

Right, so one day it decided that it wouldn't have any more pull after 8000 rpm. Runs fine up to there apart from the unknown rattling screw at 7000, but then it has no more pull. It's as if the powervalve is non existent...
Any ideas?
EDIT: By the way the rattling screw has been like that for ages not only since this came up

are you sure its not the power valve rattling i would fix the rattle then worry about how fast it goes

like you say, the powervalve is set to open at a certain engine speed i.e. 8000 rpm
has the power valve worked before?
they do need regular cleaning to keep them operating properly and to stop them from sticking.
they used to restrict the bikes by turning the powervalve upside down or putting some sort of blanking plate in so ive heard.
that or RAVE valve solenoid is shafted.

I did a service like 1000km ago and one of the things they did was clean the powervalve so it shouldn't be sticking... RAVE solenoid I guess could be another story. Expensive/Complicated to verify/fix?

have you got a maynes manual? the solenoid for the rave valve is located under the tank. if you lift you tank up you should see the solenoid just tucked next to the chassis on the to right hand side to you if you were sitting on the bike. the rave valve is cable operated and sometimes needs adjustment. just out of curiosity, has your battery been working well lately? have you had any problems with that?

I know this is a symptom of a dead battery but mine is fine. I do have a Haynes and just remembered what you're talking about.
I did drop the engine so it'd be a bit of a fail if I had no clue what you're on about Laughing

The annoying thing is I recently moved and have no garage to work in.. I'll have to go to my mate's house on sunday or something... Confused

Hi

Power valve should open just under 8000rpm. It should also be open below 2500rpm. Lift the tank, start the engine and check the solonoid operates around 2500rpm.

Right, the solenoid doesn't operate at all from what I can see, but the cable moves freely so the valve isn't stuck. New solenoid is about 80 quid, second hand is what I'll be going for.
But what will have caused the solenoid to break? Might be smart to find out why it broke so the new one lasts more than a day...

Hi

Check the value is free to move. Also take the solonoid off the bike and check it moves freely. Also be worth checking for continuity between the 2 wires to the solonoid.

hi,
theres no in-line fuse on the pv.
as Keith has said, remove the solenoid & check the little piston is actually moving.
make sure its not stuck with crud.
no-one ever thinks to clean/lubricate the solenoid.
also check your getting power to the solenoid with a multi-meter.
if you manage to get the solenoid working, then its just a case of adjusting the cable tension.

Right, fixed it now. I couldn't believe it when I found the problem. The RAVE control unit was disconnected Shocked

You probably know it's located in the tail of the bike where nobody can possibly get to it. How could it disconnect by just riding the bike? Anyway problem solved and it's good to be back on 30 horses again Very Happy
